Raw feeding
« on: July 15, 2010, 08:01:59 AM »
Hello,
I have a 7 month old pup, Monty, who has been fed various types of dried foods, none of which he seems too keen on.  I've never known a dog not wolf down food before as soon as it's put down on the floor.  He really enjoys eating bones, raw meat and a few veg I have given him on occasion though, and was thinking that maybe a raw diet would be his preference.  Have no idea about where to start though, and thought some of you may be able to offer me some advice on how to proceed.  Have to say that I wouldn't be too keen on eating the same food every day, variety is the spice of life and all that!!  Thanks.

Lots of us on here feed raw food.  If you do a search for BARF or raw food you should come up with loads of threads on it.

This thread is a good place to start  ;)

There are also numerous books available on the subject but tbh you can find all the information you need on here  :D

I feed it too, and both of mine love it. I call it BARF for lazy (or short of time) owners because it has everything in it that the dogs need and the only thing I have to remember is to get a new pack out of the freezer when required and to order another box of it before I run out. Mine also have raw chicken wings once or twice a week instead of Natural Instinct.

I use this too.  Seems really good quality.

It costs me a fortune though having six dogs  :lol2:

I also give them pilchards or sardines and chicken backs a couple of times a week.

I get lamb ribs and shanks free from my butcher but it doesn't suit all of them.

So generally stick to the chicken.

Like the sound of the frozen stuff, as essentially I am lazy!!  Unfortunately not sure if I can get that as I live in Brussels.  Will have to  reaearch locally for alternatives.  thanks for all the great advice, keep it coming!
