Going off a large bag of food?
« on: July 12, 2011, 06:56:04 PM »
On another thread I posted how Darcey had gone off her RC Kibble a bit. She was being fed from a large bag that has taken ages to get through. She has then gone onto a new smaller bag of the same Kibble but is eating much better. Does the flavour/ texture go off in the bigger bags? (I keep the bags closed and keep a largish quantity in a cereal Tupperware container)

I imagine like any food it will dry out / loose some flavours if exposed to air. I do what you do and keep some in tuperware and seal up big bag.. If your dog is like Ruby though she  regularly gets bored with her food and has driven me to distraction for almost 3 years now!!

When ours we fed ours dry there was definatly a drying out, it'd feel less, err, squidgy, and wouldn't smell as strong. Maybe try mixing a little tinned meat and/or hot water to it to try to enhance the flavour so as not to waste it?

Or try mixing some of the new and old  together?
Is the older bag still in date??

The older big. Ag has bern and gone now. Often added hot water anyway but the new bag smelt sooo much fresher.  :dunno:

I always keep mine in a sealed container.  If nothing else, it stops any mice helping themselves, especially in the winter when the mices make themselves comfortable out of the cold  >:(

I found buying the smaller bags (7.5/5kg) and keeping them in plastic containers works well for my two (they both have different foods)
