Raw Food And Stools
« on: November 11, 2012, 04:02:32 PM »
Natural Instinct, and other raw foods, declare that the stools of dogs fed on raw have small firm stools.  Unfortunately, this is not the case with Henry who has very loose and fairly copious stools.  Charley's on the other hand, are small and firm.

I wonder if the Phenobarbital that Henry has to take for epilepsy is the cause of this..

hmm, it could be.. medications can cause all sorts of complications in that kind of department  :-\

What kind of meat is it you're feeding? chicken? turkey? beef?
How frequently do you change kind of meat?
When you switched over did you try 1 kind of meat first, then after a couple of weeks gradually add in other meat types?

Are you feeding enough bone?  The recommendation is 20% but some dogs need more and some less.  Also too much heart and other offal meat can lead to looser poos.

Henry is fed Natural Instinct working dogs chicken.  This is 85% chicken and bone.   I was mixing some green tripe with the chicken, but have stopped doing this, for Henry, in case that was the cause
