I chose not to give Coral any but only after Pearls experience (not raw hide related) at 15 weeks when she had to have a foreign body removed from her gut.  The Vet said at that age her bowel is about that same width as a little finger.  I may have been over protective of Coral but I was concerned if she chewed a larger piece of hide, it may not all break down in her stomach and then not transit completely  ;)

I gave carrot batons and sugar snap peas instead.

At any age they can be a mixed blessing as the dogs love them quite obsessively but they can make their gums sore and bleed.

Try dried tripe sticks instead, Will not last like rawhide but I think much safer

Thanks for the suggestion JeffD. I will try some (though perhaps not personally!)

I stopped using them when Bramble got one stuck. I give stuffed frozen kongs or pizzles now which seem to last a good while.

I don't use them any more as there are some dubious ingredients in some of them and there have been cases of dogs being made very ill by some of the ones made in China and other Far Eastern countries.  No way of telling what is in them.  Not to mention bits breaking off and getting stuck or cutting gums etc.  >:(

Coco is not keen anyway, but I prefer to give her things like tripe stick (smelly) pizzles (revolting) Fish4Dogs treats (stinky), cow's ears - seeing a pattern here?  :005:

Carrots are great too - I freeze them for Coco and they last a bit longer that way and very soothing for sore teething gums  ;)
