Hot spot
« on: January 31, 2016, 01:47:47 PM »
Poor Dexter is having to wear the lampshade of shame for the next week as he has developed a "Hot spot". This is an area that is highly irritating skin. He has had the area shaved and we have to wash it twice a day with hibbiscrub and he has a course of steroids and anti-biotics just in case any infection tries to get in the sore skin.

He is ok with it now but he has been sore and really does not like the lampshade although it is one of the soft ones and not the hard plastic.

Our vet has told us that Spaniels are prone to this condition so we will now keep a close eye on him.

Lady had a nasty hotspot last summer on her neck but in her case my vet had me put steroid cream (using gloves) on it instead of giving the steroids as tablets, which seemed to work really well
