Title: Ears to cut or not to cut that is the question
Post by: taliska on March 14, 2004, 06:31:24 PM
ok, Talis ears I think are fab and lovely but he does tred on them from time to time, he is very much an out door type and loves running about in the undergrowth.... but the question is do we trim his ears.  There is prob about 1inch - 2 inches of hair below the ear that I could trim, but I like the natural round look, where as if I trim it will prob look a little square!.. Any thoughts? :?  :?

There's nothing to stop you from trimming just a little off and shaping them round instead of straight across, that's how I trim ears anyway :D

I once went to a grooming seminar held by Lancashire cocker spaniel club, with Jackie Marris-Bray...and she said that instead of cutting around the ear it is far better just to hold the ear in your hand... and cut straight across with straight scissors  (only taking off the tips)

That's why when you look at presentation in the show ring it varies so much  :D You have to choose what you like about the way a dog is presented. :D
Each to their own

Sue

I have taken to rimming Rigsby's ears now as he permanently has them trailing along the ground!   The alternative would be to have them permanently damp from washing them

The method I use is to get him to lay down and then I spread each ear out flat and cut the same amount off all the way round (along the bottom), then thin the edges slightly with the thinning scissors.

I much prefer them not to look like pie crusts!   :D

Gerry, I do exactly the same thing for the same reason.
