this is something that seems to happen when you use standby mode or hibernate mode.  It is something that you have to go through the energy saver modes and customise the settings there.

Yes - it didn't solve it though.
Have given up now and taken the standby off which means my Pc is on all the time now - which i don't like doing.

I've never had any success with the Hibernate or standby modes. Dunno why. Suspect this is something that could be researched on Microsoft Technet and other online sources, but it's a Windows feature that really doesn't seem to work "out of the box"

If it worked before, can you pinpoint any changes you may have made to the system that might be related? Any new software or hardware added?

Sorry this really isn't one of my areas of expertise - like I said it's not a feature I've ever had much success with.

Maybe worthwhile doing some digging at Microsoft Knowledge Base but not sure how far you'll get.

Haven't made any changes it just stopped working.
Have never had much luck with my Pc - sound card has disappeared off it too - nowhere to be found, can't even blame the kids for losing it

Hi Ziggy,  You don't mention, but I'm guessing from this that you have Broadband (ADSL)?  If so, this could mean that you're missing the little ADSL filters that should be installed to separate the phone signals from the PC traffic.  If you're not sure, it maybe worthwhile speaking to the tech support for your ISP (broadband supplier)

Donna, I hope you've got a power surge socker fitted to your PC then.
On  another note if you are running XP and have MSN Messenger you can invite someone more experienced to log on and hellp, like remote support. I spent 2 nights a  couple of weeks ago doing this for my sisters friend as she had porn pop-ups and allsorts on hers, including a lost sound card, which I did find.
