Help! Memory / Printing Problem
« on: April 28, 2005, 08:16:02 PM »
Can anyone help....please :D

My Mum uses an Apple (much to my horror  ) but she's having big problems. I sent her some photos on a disc and she is easily able to open the pictures (both as thumbnails and full size images) but when she tries to print them out a box comes up on the screen saying "You are not able to print this photograph as you do not have enough memory".

I've talked her through it and I think it must be a virtual memory problem. She's got next to nothing on the hard drive - just the basics that the Apple came supplied with plus one game and photoshop elements. Thats all. Its really only used for emailing and word processing but she has pretty much nothing stored on there.

The game thats on there is my Dad's and its a flight simulator - that also will not work because it says again that there's not enough memory.

Any ideas any of you clever people out there?

Edited to add it has 128mb

She tells me that she has nothing else running.....to her knowledge  Is it possible for something to be running in the background that she might not be aware of?

Yes it is. Not sure how it works with a Mac but with windows it's Ctrl, Alt, Delete whihc then brings up  Task Manager and you can see what processes are running.

Doh! I use that all the time on my pc - never thought about it! Think that might be a bit technical for my Mum though! Will have to see if I can get my brother to pop round and have a look for her!

Just supposing its not that, is there anything else I could look at?

Mmmm not sure really. I was running 128mb memory for 2 years without any problems. My PC has LOADS of large programs and still ran OK so I'm not sure why she is getting this error message tbh. Have you tried doing a google search for this particular problem. I have had issues in the past and founf out how to solve them by a quick google search.

I did, but its hard to know how to help her when she's up in Cheshire and I'm down here in the Channel Islands. The only time I ever use an Apple is when I visit them so its not easy to talk her through things over the phone

Thanks for all your help :D

What about DOS 5.0? and predecessors?

Yes folks.... we really did used to have PCs where you had to type stuff in - rather than clicking on icons on the desktop.

Things were simpler in those days   ;)
