With our vaccines (Vanguard), the vets recommend waiting about 3 - 4 days after the second one so thats what I did with Vegas (back then, the 2nd vaccine was given at 12 weeks). He got carried everywhere for 5 weeks (got him at 7 weeks) Dallas had just had his 2nd vaccination when I was allowed to take him home at 11 weeks and I took him out straightaway. Disney on the other hand has just been dragged up
Once he had his first vaccine, he started coming to work with me and I did get a bit lax about carrying him everywhere. I just figured that if he was going to catch anything, he probably would have caught it at the vets so he got a few little walks sneaked in before he was 10 weeks
(and I'm sure the Nobivac datasheet recommends no outings until 10-14 days after 2nd jab).
I wouldn't mind some clarity on this either please.
So is it first injection at 8 weeks and second injection at 10 weeks, then take them out for walks at 14 weeks (or 13 weeks and a few days, depending on advice) but you can carry them around for those 6 weeks as long as they don't touch the ground?
Is it ok to have people stroke the pup if they have other dogs?
It would normally be walks at 12 weeks if the second vaccine is 10 weeks which the majority are nowadays. Carrying them around is highly recommended as it gets them used to traffic noises, other people etc etc. I found that after carrying Vegas around for 5 weeks, his first walk didn't phase him at all and even now, loud traffic noises and heavily populated areas don't bother him whereas Dallas was quite fearful in these situations as he didn't experience these things until he was 11 weeks old so it definitely makes a difference. I took Disney to training classes at 8 & 9 weeks old just to sit and watch (I took him to his first class at 10 weeks and he didn't even bat an eyelid whereas most dogs are a bit nervous at their first time) and get him used to the noises etc and everyone of course wanted to stroke him and I didn't object. I suppose its down to how strict you want to be about things. (You could always carry some disposable gloves around with you
) I have another 2 dogs at home so, in theory, they could have brought some sort of nasty disease in and infected the puppy. I know of a few people who have been told that their resident dogs shouldn't be allowed out either until the pups vaccination program is complete
Very OTT in my opinion and something I wouldn't be willing to do
