Has anyone read books by the Monks of New Skete?

The books How To Be Your Dog's Best Friend and The Art of Raising a Puppy by the Monks of New Skete have been recommended to me.
I have looked for reviews of them but not found much useful information, while some people highly recommend them, others criticise their techniques.
I would be interested in hearing the opinion of anybody who has read either of these books.
