Conditioner
« on: April 06, 2004, 01:49:46 PM »
Just wanted to say thanks to Michele and Jane for the coconut conditioner tip.

I bathed Morgan a week ago and although we don't have Asda, I found a Safeway brand of coconut conditioner.  I diluted it in a spray bottle, sprayed it on, left it for a couple of minutes and showered it off. His ears and feathering have been a lot easier to groom this week  :D

Even better though - we're just back from a very muddy walk, and a swim in the river and when I went to towel dry Morgan just now, he still smells lovely.

It worked a treat, so thanks again  :D

I found the same Shirley :D  I bathed Dallas the other week and used conditioner for the first time(had to get jojoba cos all the coconut ones had sold out  ) and he was much easier to groom and smelled delicious   Kept the smell of wee away for oooh about 3 days   Only I didn't dilute it - I smothered it on   I'll know for this weekends bath

Lol! Did you not experience any knots? After using conditioner I find that our dogs get tiny knots (really, really small ones.) They don’t take long by combing out…but there a pain in the bum!  I have put it down to the Super Jet Dryer tho!   However one of my mums friends who has Bearded collies (who doesn't own a blaster) said that she discovered that by using conditioner on her show dogs she also gets tiny knots. Anyone else found this :?:

:?   No tiny knots here, Nikki!  but I've only used the conditioner once.  Morgan was none too impressed when I tried to put a hairdryer near him when he was a pup  , so now I just towel dry him and he'll lie in a warm place for a couple of hours.  He gets a really good brush every day and even then I sometimes find wee knots, so I don't think there's any way of keeping them totally tangle-free all of the time.  If you find a way, I'd be delighted to hear of it!

I got a conditioning spray from one of the stalls at Crufts that claims to keep the coat tangle free, as well as producing a lovely shiny coat (especially on the black bits) - only I cant remember what it's called off the top of my head     It has a nice vanilla smell, spray it on and rub it in. I also use a special de-tangle comb to gently comb through the areas where Daisy is prone to tangle i.e. her pits. I do find mine tend to smell of 'dog' very quickly a few days after having had a bath, so I think I'm going to try out coconut conditioner too

We have actually discovered a conditioner that works for us ! It’s called Tropiclean – has a lovely kiwi sent; apparently it’s a remoisturizer with papaya and oatmeal . And the brilliant thing about it – also detangles. We used it the day before Blackpool and with all the wind and rain it still kept Harv’s coat smooth and smelling gorgeous .
