:D we had Baileys hair cut a couple of weeks ago because he was really fluffy and it was really hot.  What a nightmare!!!!       he would not stand still, he was scared everytime she put the shaver on, so she had to cut him by hand    , i felt really sorry for her, it took her two hours.  However the end result was great :D   The only problem is that his fur has grown back so quick :P  and she isn't due to cut him again till August! oh well will have to ring her to come earlier. :P  :P

Hi David and Katherine

I really don't want to offend either of you but have to admit that from the photos it doesn't look like your groomers have done your Cockers justice at all.

Clippering off the whole of the coat is obviously quicker and easier to do than stripping but you do end up with the shorn sheep look unfortunately. I'd ask around to see if there is a groomer nearby who will handstrip before the next trim, your Cockers will end up with a much more natural look. :D

Alternatively you could learn to trim yourself by reading through some of the threads on the grooming section. Many amateurs like myself have learnt how to do it through the help of the experts on this site over the last year or two. It does take time and practice but isn't too hard to do and can be quite rewarding. I thought it would be a real chore but have to say I actually enjoy doing it now. The initial outlay for the necessary tools will probably be about £50/£60 but you would save quite a bit in the long run.  :D

David,

There is a groomers in Burscough (not to far from you) who does handstrip and as she used to show cockers is very sympathetic to how they should look, we have been taking Billy there for the last few months on the recomendation of another COL member and the difference is amazing.
Previously our groomer used to just shear Billy's coat all over and he was starting to look like a sheep

Hi

I can vouch for this groomer too :D  I have used her since Indie was a puppy, up until, I had a go at stripping her myself :D   I am slowly getting there, she hasn't been to the groomers for a while now, and is still looking like a cocker, so fingers crossed

I have recommended her to a fdew people now and all seem happy with her work :)

We took Barns to the shop and just left him there. Shes really good the woman, she took him into the back and got on with it, we didn't watch. :D They are easier when they are cut, they don't get things caught in the fur etc But the fluffy ones are so sweet!

We even took our cat to her and he is quite aggressive. We tried him before at pets @ home but they came out covered in scratches and Tom didn't look any better than before! (he has very thick fur!)

We never really knew about hand stripping. but barnaby didn't seem to mind its almost completely grown back now. I spose he wouldn't look so much like a sheep.
What exactly do they do when they handstrip them?
