That's everyone's nightmare.

Round here there was a case of cruelty to a cocker. It frightened us for ages.

Do you ever get any happy news or recoveries, Penny?

Yes every time a dog is found there are emails sent as well.

Sadly there's one poor terrier that was found yesterday that had been doped and stolen and is now very ill after being found, presumably from the doping.

One lovely story was of an owner who lost a lurcher who kept being seen but no one could catch up with her as she'd gone each time owners got to where she had been sighted. So owner then took her recently worn sweatshirt and dragged it around on the ground to leave a trail and then just left it there overnight. She returned the next morning to find her dog sitting on the sweatshirt.

And the Irish water spaniel who was on the run for 2 weeks after many people reported sightings in their garden. Owner then settled down in the
garden where she had just been seen, with dog's bed, food etc and some
dust from the vacuum cleaner to give a scent of home, and soon had her safe
in the car.

Sadly I get several emails a day re this sort of thing and am sure these are just the tip of the iceberg. Gundogs, terriers and lurchers are prime targets for thieves.
:( ....but why??  Is it to breed off them or what ? And to think that Lucy is expecting pups   !!  No words can describe or try to comprehend it.........the people who did this are animals, evil ones at that... !!!

Lurchers and terriers are often stolen by travellers, worked into the ground and then dumped. Gundogs are just popular breeds in general so they're either sold on or bred from. In the South-East of England there was a spate of thefts (which probably still goes on) where dogs were being held to ransom. And in Wales and some parts of England dogs are stolen for baiting fighting dogs.

Dogslost UK is one site, which is the tip of the iceberg really as far as stolen dogs are concerned.

The terrier has now been found (wandering in Chalfont St Giles by the dog warden) but no sign yet of the cockers. Obviously someone dumped him or he ran away from his captors.

I guess poor dog has had her pups and then they'll be sold on.

Just had an email about 2 westies that have just been stolen from a boarding kennel in Wilts while owners were on holiday and its thought that the thieves could be keeping the dogs for a ransom as the reward is for a £1000. Its awful to think that dogs aren't safe anywhere now.
