Bad Hair Day/ Good Hair Day
« on: August 01, 2012, 09:10:36 AM »
When I went for a new sack of
BHD I noticed the packaging had
changed but when I got home
noticed the name change to
Good Hair Day which I do understand
from a marketing point of view but....
I notice a change in ingredient and I
don't know enough about nutrition to
weigh up the change.
So this is a long-winded way of asking
if the trout that now appears is a suitable
like for like change for the salmon that
used to be in it.

I have also noticed on Dylans Barking Heads Senior that on the last bag they are using trout instead of salmon and also the wording of natural flavours wonder what they are?

Give them a ring, they are sure to tell you what the changes are.

Oh I e-mailed them and they said
the salmon to trout change was a
like for like but I'm still not convinced.
I actually moved onto BH as because
I had been using salmon oil with JWB
and thought oh good no beetpulp
and  yes salmon so I can stop adding oil.
I'm a bit confused :dunno: but that's
not unusual ;)

Hi Steff, the benefit of salmon oil is mainly in its high omega 3 content. The trout they have replaced it with is also high in omega 3 and the food has a total omega 3 content of 1.9% which is good. I think you can carry on feeding this food knowing that you are feeding something that is equivalent to the old food. There may be some people that say that salmon oil has other properties that make it better than other high omega 3 fish oils but I've not seen any evidence for that.

Oh thanks John!
Strangely I was going to PM
you about this today so that's
put my mind at rest :D
I will add that although Ellie
isn't heavy coated and spayed,
her coat does feel better and
easier to groom too, not so many
tuggies. So, all in all we give
GHD a thumbs up!

If its specifically pink flesh you are after then it depends on where they source the trout. Sea run trout are pink but trout farmed ones are white.
