Title: East Midlands Meet
Post by: gina on March 09, 2004, 08:46:43 PM
Hi all

Could anyone let me know if there is such a thing for those in the east midlands, particularly Leicestershire  :?:   :?:

Apologies if someone has asked this before, if so could i be pointed in the right direction.

I would love to meet up with other cockers and owners  :!:

Hi Gina & Barkley, Bess & I live in Leicestershire too.

I'm hoping to adopt a new Cocker this weekend & when he's settled in (give me a couple of weeks) I'd be up for a meet with other Cockers & their owners.

I live in Leicester too and have a 6 month old boy called Riley.  An East Mids meeting would be great, perhaps at Bradgate Park?  It would be great to meet you and your cockers!

Go on have an East Midlands meet! In north West and the Southern lot   we just arrange it on here. No frequency or anything like that - just do it for fun and when others can come along.

Oh one other thing - you must take some piccy's!!!!!!

I did try and get something going for North Midlands/South Yorkshire before but not much response, but as in Derbyshire just up road would love to meet up with you guys... Bradgate sounds good, can you have dogs off lead though as there are/can be lots of deer around?

You can have dogs off lead at Bradgate as there are areas separated off for the deer, Riley loves it there!

I am in Leicestershire too.

We would love to meet up with you all.  Tilly adores all dogs, but particularly cockers, of course!  She is 10 months old now.  Bradgate Park is just 10 miles away, so would be great.  Another suggestion might be Burbage Woods, just off  the M69, but may not be so central for everyone.  It's very safe for dogs and there is a farmhouse there selling hot chocolate and ice-lollies, great whatever the weather!

Would be very happy to be involved in organising and meeting up.

Wow what a response :D  :D

To be more precise we live in Barwell a village just outside Hinckley, Burbage Woods is within walking distance for me, and also Market Bosworth Park is a only a short drive away.

We have never been over to Bradgate Park yet, but i'm sure Barkley would love it.

not quite sure what happens now though :?:  do we all just say a date and go for it :!:

Gina, you're just down the road from me, I'm in Nailstone, just off the A447 after Market Bosworth.  Have I seen you in Bosworth Park?  We go there regularly.

Anyway, I say suggest a date & we'll all see if we can fit in.  For me it will have to be a weekend because I work full time.  In fact, how about a fortnight on Sunday, which would be 28 March?

Yes sunday 28th is fine for me, i too work full time, so weekends are also better.

i'll look forward to it.  Anyone else want to come as well :?:

I won't be able to attend that weekend as we will be in Spain (well, Riley will be being spoiled to death by his aunty!)

Any chance we could make it the 4th?  Any venue is fine for us :)

I'm OK for 4th April too.

Bearing in mind that this site is going off line shortly for a few days, let's have everyone's email address so that we can arrange this meet, alternatively, long on to http://www.dogpages.org.uk/ (http://www.dogpages.org.uk/) if COL goes offline & we'll carry on the thread there.  You never know, we might pick up a few more for the meet there.

Anyway, my email address is: cindere528@aol.com

Hi Everyone,

Either 28th March or 4th April works for me too.  Sundays are definitely best for us.  It's a small world - I am in Dunton Bassett, 4 miles north of Lutterworth.  Burbage Woods is our favourite place to walk (nothing to do with the refreshment opportunities, of course!) Tilly loves to snuffle about in the undergrowth and the open areas are great for games of frisbee.   But I would be happy to try any new place in the greater Leicester area - always looking for new walks.

I think my email address is on my profile.  I have to dash off to obedience class now (all cockers!!) but I will make sure it's visible when I get back.  How will we survive without COL for a few days??!!

8) Yeahayy whowl-whowl-whowl!!

Charlie-Spud 'ere and always up for a meet! Being central I can get my chauffeurs take me north or south! I hit the south-east meet last year and I'm hitting the north-west's in April :D But unfotunately the 'staff' are not available those days  :(

Woof-Woof.

Well watch this space Charlie Spud, the date may still change.

We've not got many signed up for the meet yet so the best date will be whenever most people can manage.

And who said we were only having ONE meet?  It may be so successful that we have loads, so like I said, watch this space.

When are your "chauffeurs" free? Can you manage to get a look at their diary?

I am visiting my Mum and Dad who live in Playa Honda, a small village just outside of La Manga, lucky swines!  They said they wouldn't have another dog after our family black cocker Sweep died two years ago, well after seeing Riley as a puppy they are now down on a breeders waiting list in Spain!  Can't resist those cockers!

Good for them! No home is complete without a cocker.  Why don't they get one over here & get a passport for him, then he can travel between here & Spain whenever they come over.

Do we all agree that we'll stick with 4th April then?  Sorry you can't make it Taliska but the week after is Easter so I think we should set a firm date for the first meet.  We can always have another meet next month or whatever.  Are we agreed on Bradgate, or is Burbage Woods better (I've never been there but it's not far from me), or even Bosworth Park.  The other alternative is Sence Valley Park at Ibstock.  For those who don't know about it, it's a new (about 4 years old) country park which has been created from an old opencast coal mine.  There are lakes & lots of water birds, hilly walks, level walks, just about everything for a good long doggy walk & PARKING IS FREE!!

I got my new doggy yesterday, his name's Dillon & he's 5 years old.  He's looking forward to meeting lots of new Cockers when we have our meet. Bess is a little underwhelmed by him, she's ignoring him most of the time, but at least there's been no aggression from either of them.

Hi All

I'm not fussed where we meet for the 1st time, as if it becomes a regular thing we could have a different venue each time.

So we're definately up for the 4th, just need to decide where??

That's what I thought too.  So - votes for venue then:

Bradgate

Burbage

Bosworth

Sence Valley at Ibstock

I'm not fussed, Sence Valley & Bosworth parks are both about the same distance from me.  Burbage is a bit further but not a problem. Bradgate is probably a bit further than Burbage but again, not a prob.  What do the rest of you think?

I vote for Bradgate but am not really bothered, in fact, now I come to think of it it might be nice to go somewhere new!  I'm not indicisive, I just can't make my mind up!  Doh! Seriously though, majority rules so I will go with that.

Like all you other indecisive East Midlanders, I am flexible on the location.  Bradgate is fine for me, and a new venue, so looking forward to checking it out.  Does it have an obvious meeting place?  And what time would suit?

Tilly is showing some signs of coming into season at the moment, she does pick her moment, doesn't she?  I will keep an eye on her and let you know if we have problems with the date because of this.

Regards,

Sue

Guess what?  Tilly, with impecable timing, has just come into season.  That puts us out of any meeting for the next three weeks.  So sorry to let everyone down.  Can't now make 4th, but would love to meet you all and your cockers any time afterwards!

Tilly is glum - she can't understand why she's not going on her usual walks.  It will be a long and boring three weeks for all of us....

Hi
I saw all of your correspondence on an East Midlands meet.
For a future venue you might consider Fosse Meadows at Frolesworth
It is a great place for Dogs . Lots of space, free parking and water!.
Might join you some time with my working cocker

Wendy, we also walk regularly at Fosse Meadows with Tilly - we all love it.  Would love to meet up there with other cocker owners some time in the future - post Tilly's season.  Just wanted to endorse your comments, Fosse Meadows is a great place to walk with dogs (or without!)

I may have to cry off next week.  Dillon & Bess have both had Kennel Cough.  Dillon is just about over it but Bess has been quite poorly (she's nearly 12 years old). She's on antibiotics from the Vet & I've been out today to get her some Benylin for children which is what most people seem to recommend for KC.  We hardly had a wink of sleep last night with her coughing & she gets so distressed with it.

Anyway, I hope the meet goes ahead & that you all enjoy it, I may make it, if she gets better in the next couple of days, but if not, hope to meet up with you all on the next East Mids Meet.

Poor Dillon and Bess - and poor you!  I hope they are both feeling better soon and you all get some sleep.

I am very keen to arrange another East Midlands meet hot on the heels of the first one as I feel fed-up about not being able to make it because of Tilly's season.  Why don't we tentatively aim for sometime in May?  I will post on the board in a few weeks time to see if we can get East Midlands meet no 2 off the ground.  In the meantime, hope the meet on April 4th goes really well.  We'll be with you in spirit!

Bradgate Park, Newtown Linford

If you are coming from Anstey way then the main park entrance is on your right as you come into the village, next to the church and opposite a garden centre and an ice cream shop.  Obviously if you are coming the other way it will be on your left!  The car park is pay and display and I vote we meet just inside the big gates on the right hand side.

I have short blonde hair and Jane has mid length brown hair, Riley will be the hairy blue one whinging because he wants to be let off the lead!  We will wait until about 3:20 and then make our way into the park but I will check the boards before we go to see who is definitely coming.

Cheers

We're sad that we can't join you, but Tilly is in full season, so I don't think it would be a good idea to come!  Enjoy yourselves and how about a rematch in May?

I'm definitely up for a rematch in May. Fairly sure I won't make this Sunday, Bess is still coughing & although she would be OK for a walk, I'm not sure if she's still contagious. I would hate to be responsible for infecting other doglets. Best to leave it until she's completely better I think.

How does Sunday May 2 sound?  It's the first bank hol weekend.

Dillon should be over his operation by then (for those who don't know, he's having an eye removed next Thursday - I've only had him 3 weeks & I was told that one eye had been removed but my vet found that, although he had suffered a major trauma to it, it had never been removed & since he keeps getting infections in it, it would be best removed & stitched up)

Hi Everyone,

Just back from a week away, so thought it might be useful to confirm that we are going for a rescheduled meeting at Bradgate Park on May 2nd at 3pm.  Here are the previousdirections posted by Sam, Jane and Riley.  It would be useful to know who to wait for.  We shall be there for definite and hope to meet up with lots of other COLiners.

Yes, we're still planning on coming.  Like you, I hope the weather is better than now, we have just come in from a very wet walk - I will have to get Tilly's tracksuit out again if it doesn't dry up a bit!

This afternoon I will PM all those who expressed an interest so we can make sure we wait in the Park for all those who may have got delayed on the way.  I'll also give a mobile number so that if the weather is really bad we can talk and make a decision on whether to rearrange.

Hope we won't have to!  Looking forward to meeting all those lovely cockers (and lovely owners too of course!)

So how many of us are meeting tomorrow then?  And how many people will have 2 dogs (like me)?  I must apologise in advance for Dillon's behaviour.  As you know, I've only had him a few weeks & a lot of that time he had a lampshade on after his eye operation, so training was put on the back burner.  Therefore, his behaviour leaves a lot to be desired.  He is very aggressive towards other dogs (not Bess). I'm hoping that tomorrow will cure him of this. In fact, I might try to get a friend to come along with me so that I only have to control Dillon. It's difficult correcting his behaviour when I'm holding 2 leads.

Hi

I think there will be at least 3 "groups". possibly more.  All of the Dunton4 will be there - only one dog though.  Looking forward to meeting you all at 3pm.

Six Cockers and assorted owners managed to meet up today and all had a great time in Bradgate Park.  Dillon was a tad loud most of the time, but the youngsters all had a whale of a time playing chase & running in and out of the water.  I suspect that some of them will have had baths tonight.  My two have been playing flat spaniels ever since we got back. In fact, they're both in bed now.

Anyway it was a great afternoon, much helped by the weather & I for one (or three if you count the dogs) am up for another meet in a few weeks time.   :)

Editted to say - Oops, have just had another look and you've added some more pics, glad to see there are now humans with heads  :)

It was lovely to meet so many COLiners and their dogs.  We enjoyed great weather and it was fantastic to see all six cockers getting on so well together :D :D  .  Charlie-Spud, Riley and Barkley all demonstrated their swimming abilities - most impressive 8) .  Tilly ate some poo :(   .   they were all so good when they were having their photos taken (you can see them in New Rogues Gallery)

For anyone who hasn't been, Bradgate Park is great and they even sell ice-cream!

When's the next time??

Hi all

We'd just like to say how much we enjoyed the afternoon as well.  Barkley especially enjoyed meeting Tilly, i think it was 'love at first sight'.  It was nice meeting all the other dogs (and owners) and we look forward to the next time.
