Territorial/protective behaviour
« on: August 09, 2017, 09:19:36 PM »
Hi.

Advice needed please.

We have two cockers - 3 year sisters.
I am a part time dog groomer and have dogs come to the house to be groomed.
I put my dogs in the hall with the gate across.
When the other dog come in my dogs bark at them and sometimes growl.
I know this is quite normal in dogs but how can I change it so that my dogs don't growl at them ?
Also if over the Park my dogs are usually ok with other dogs, unless they go near their ball or get a bit fresky under their bottom area.

Thanks for your help in this matter.

I don't think there is much you can do. You could try telling them not to to bark or taking them to somewhere else in the house where they can't sense any other dogs.

When I'm outside with my dog. I try to keep him away from other dogs as much as possible. He's much calmer and much better behaved. He's Also been attacked a few times from other dogs so I'm not too bothered about him mixing with strange dogs. He doesn't need to play with every dog in the park. When he does play with other dogs he's friendly enough. Some dogs don't like strange dogs sniffing their private parts if I was a dog I wouldn't like it either!!
