How much did your cocker cost?
« on: January 07, 2008, 03:14:23 PM »
Hi, having spent ages looking for a puppy last year and getting quoted different amounts, I just wondered whether the price of cocker spaniel puppies varies depending on where you live in the country and from what type of breeder or advert you get a puppy from.   How much did your cocker spaniel cost, I realise the cost will vary depending on how old your cocker is now.

Hurley is a show type, we researched our breeders thoroughly and bought him from a 'reputable' breeder. She has 3 bitches, each of whom she shows and the dogs are PRA tested.

Hurley is 2 in March, comes from Barnsley and cost £550.

I would imagine that price will also vary depending on whether or not the puppy is a show/worker, whether or not they came from a reputable breeder - (puppy farmed dogs will probably be cheaper) and whereabouts in the country they are from........

I'm sure we had a thread like this not that long ago. I'll see if I can find it to avoid everyone repeating themselves ;)

I've had two cockers from different breeders in the last 6 years - both show type and both from good breeding with successful show fathers.

The first was £575 from a breeder in Eastbourne 6 years ago and the second was £600 from a breeder in Hampshire this summer.

My re-homed Weimaraner was free to a good home :D

Here's another thread, a bit older than the one Max posted but still useful as a general guide :

And a poll from last year about how members found their Cockers :

I think Bracken was £600. We now realise she was from a commercial breeder (who is KC registerer) it seems like she studded her boys and then looked after the mother and puppies.

Bracken came with the usual starter pack, contract from breeder, offer of support, DVD on cocker spaniels etc.

She is not an excellent example of her breed (we don't tell her that  :005: ) but she has a lovely temprement and we love her to bits  :luv:

If I was looking again I would definitely go with a breeder who does the optigen testing etc.
