I don't think it is a bad thing if reputably-bred puppies cost this much; it doesn't actually take long to save up the cost if you put to one side the money you will pay for the insurance/food etc every month...and if you can't afford to do this, then you can't really afford to keep a dog
What would worry me is when a litter is priced much higher, or much lower, than the usual for the breed; so for cockers, £1000 is quite a lot, but for a bulldogs and similar flat-faced breeds (which have far more expensive medical screening and veterinary intervention during whelping) then over £1000 is usual
