My first cocker cost £150 (I paid half) and it was my whole lives savings......well I was only 10, but to me that was the equivalent to a million pounds! :005:

If I really loved that pup I think I would sell my soul!  :005: Although I think I would be very wary of someone selling a cocker for that price, I would be thinking why are they charging so much? Is money their only goal? Because like others have said a good breeder would know that you couldn't judge how well it is likely to do in the show circles at such a young age, so how do they justify selling at double the price?

If they didnt quiz me about what sort of home I could provide it as much as I was quizzing them about health checks etc then I would walk away.

Why bother paying £1000? when there are some beautiful show type puppies with as much chance of doing well at show available for less? or some cracking rescues for even less!
Is this puppy designed by Prada?

Its because they are rare so money to be made out of them.   ::)

My sable American Cocker was the same price as the rest of the litter which were sable parties and black and tans. My breeder had been told to sell the sables for more and she had an offer on Jesse for well more than I paid, but she was not prepared to charge differently to the black/tans! Just as well, because I wouldn't have been able to afford more than I paid for him at the time and I would have missed out on a fab dog, but if money wasn't an object, I would pay almost any price for a dog/puppy I really wanted...

Does paying more make you a better owner? - I think not?? I want my dog to be part of my family and be loved and cared for as one regardless of his colour. Yes health checks are important like health checks whilst carrying our own children but colour come on something is wrong with our world if this drives and motivates people of the dog world, and personally I would stay well clear of these breeders. >:D

The bitch that had our kobi has just had another litter, the pups were up for £500 each, a guy came down from north for one of the pups and was adamant that they were to cheap and paid £800 for one :o :o :o

With the gorgeous doggys that are in rescue, Many Tears for example, why would you pay £1000 for one when you could give a gorgey one a home for FAR less.

I accept that having a puppy is really nice, but I am now converted  :D

Actually, this has just reminded me that my first pup was golden and came from a litter of 3 goldens and 5 blacks... the golds were £50 more than the blacks for some reason - possibly because he had a famous gold show father and grandfather but still it does seem odd now I think about it.... I only got him because I wanted a dog not a bitch and all the black dogs had gone, colour wasn't a factor at all for me then.
