Another Four Paws Animal Rescue Photo Competition  :005:

Help us put the Spring back into Bertie Springer

About Bertie

The first picture is of Guinness and Phoenix (Now Wooster and Bertie) before the accident and the second is a picture of Bertie last Thursday night when he returned to Four Paws.  He is in the vets with his neck in a brace with fentinol and morphine being administered to relieve his pain.  An x-ray suggested that he has a crack in the 2nd bone in his neck but the source of his lameness and severe pain appears to be a slipped disc lower down his neck.  We were hoping that this would be confirmed by a milogram and rectified by surgery, however Bertie's Milogram didnt give us what we were hoping for so he'll be staying in the Vets overnight again. On Wednesday 17 June he'll be going to the Fitzpatrick Veterinary Hospital in Godalming in Surrey for an MRI before his spinal surgery can begin.

Bertie and Wooster are 5 year old brothers who have a very close bond; Wooster is missing his brother terribly.  We sincerely hope that we can get Bertie fit and well and reunite them again.

History

Bertie and Wooster originally came into Four Paws Animal Rescue with two young collies; all four dogs came from a farm where they had spent a good deal of their time crated in a shed.  The collies found happy homes and Bertie and Wooster were rehomed together to a young couple with plenty of land; the couple had the Springer boys for only 3 months when they collided with each other, head to head, during a walk one day which damaged Bertie's neck leading to his constant pain and lameness in his front left leg.

Unfortunately, with all the chaos which comes with settling two new dogs into the household the new owners had neglected to take out pet insurance and they were forced to take the difficult decision to return the dogs into our care to allow Bertie to receive the treatment he desperately needs.

We are running an online photo competition to raise funds for Bertie's treatment from 25 June to 25 July

Click here for further information about Bertie.

Classes
1. Mans' Best Friend
2. My Favourite Thing
3. Just for Laughs
4. Opportunity Barks
5. Water Babies
6. Other Animals - Caught in the Act

The competition takes place on our forum.

Judge

Our judge for this show will be:

Toni Shelbourne, Tellington TTouch Companion Animal Practitioner

In 1997 Toni studied under Linda Tellington - Jones and other top Tellington TTouch Instructors to become a registered level 1 Tellington TTouch Companion Animal Practitioner. She was one of the first to qualify in the UK and has really seen it grow over the years in the UK .

In September 2000 she left GDBA to pursue her passion for the Tellington TTouch Training Method and has been practising ever since. Toni is now one of the highest qualified practitioners in the UK (level 3) and assists instructors in training new practitioners. In 2004 she also qualified as an equine practitioner, although chooses to concentrate on companion animals and captive wild animals.

She has appeared along side Sarah Fisher in the hit TV series Talking to Animals and has also been featured in articles for Dogs Today and Your Dog magazine.

As well as working privately with clients, Toni runs 1 & 2 day workshops and performance clinics for companion animals, gives talks about the work and works closely with a number of rescue shelters and assistance dogs organisations.

Toni works with all animals including dogs, cats, small animals, birds, horses, reptiles, wild life and non-domesticated animals. Her main passion being the eight socialised wolves she works with at the UK Wolf Conservation Trust, www.ukwolf.org near Reading in Berkshire where she lives.

Please remember that the reason for this dog show is to make as much money as possible for Bertie to help put the spring back into him.

Thank you for your support :flowers:
