Wetting when meeting other dogs
« on: March 11, 2009, 03:08:16 PM »
Hattie is now 10 months and she seems to be wetting when we meet other dogs, its not all dogs, yesterday she did it a bluegirls house, i put it down to being excited at meeting her 4 dogs, but this morning she did it again and this dog was very gentle and slow, its not really a  problem that is bothering me, its i just wanted to know is there anything i should be doing to help her. She does not seem to be doing it when greeted by humans.

To me it sounds the same as when Glen used to do it when he met other dogs and also humans. It is just excitement and he grew out of it.

I remember one memorable occasion when I took him to the vets and I had him on my knee...he spotted another dog and peed all over me. I then scooped him up into my arms and had him against my chest and when the vet came for him he peed all over me again so I was soaked  ::) :005:

Thanks for the quick reply Theresa, How old was Glen when he grew out of it.

Poppy used to do this too!  She only really grew out of it in the last 3/4 months (she is 19 months now)......

She obviously just finds life very exciting  ph34r :005: :005:

Ooooh I can't remember...I think he grew out of it really quickly but all dogs do things in their own time eh. Hopefully Hattie will stop soon for you  :-*

Misha used to do this when meeting other dogs, especially dogs that were bigger than her (its meant to be a submissive behaviour).  I used to have to make sure that she has several wees before we went into training classes, to reduce the number of accidents.  I felt that perhaps she was lacking in confidence so once a week for about 4 weeks she went to doggy day care for the morning where she could play with dogs of a similar size (nothing that could overwhelm her).  She never did it after that and it did wonders for her confidence.

Our first cocker, Katie #1 would do this everytime she got excited at meeting someone.
I can't really recall her ever growing out of it.

Fortunately she'd never wee'd on us, unlike Glen with Theresa  :005:

My Sam used to do this when he met new dogs but also when he met people he knew and liked! He grew out of it at about 1 year old I think.

Nina still wee's with excitement and she is 20 months old.  ::) ::) ::)  My friend ended up with 'wet' shoes recently.  :o

I am keeping my fingers crossed she will eventually grow out of it.  ;)
