New SLR Camera!
« on: April 06, 2011, 08:04:11 PM »
Firstly, I hope I have put this in the right place. Didn't know whether to put it in Photography or Shopping

Well.... I've finally got the money together to treat myself to a SLR. I have ordered a Nikon D3100 and it should be here tomorrow so I'm quite excited to say the least!
I've been really interested in photography for quite a while and have had numerous point & shoots for years now and have been wanting to take the jump and get a SLR for ages but just never got round to it. The camera I have at the moment is an average compact camera and doesn't really do what I want it to do so looking forward to having the Nikon and testing it out tomorrow ;) :011:

Wow, cool! I bought my 1st SLR 2 months ago, a Canon 550D. I love it. I took it to New York a couple of weeks after getting it and got some fantastic (albeit a bit snap happy :005:) photo's. However I was determined to get off of using the "auto" setting. So for my birthday last week my parents paid for me to do a 1 day beginner DLSR course through Jessops. It was a really good day (although a tad expensive) but absolutely worth while. I learned far more than I ever could understand by reading the manual. They taught you about lenses, aperture, ISO, handling, white balance and so much more, it was so bloomin' informative. So next week i'm off to cornwall, fingers crossed I get some better pictures.

Enjoy!  :D

Just a little update, I've had the camera for a couple of weeks now and it's fab! Wouldn't ever find myself going back to a compact now! Definitely the best camera I've ever purchased (and I've had a few :005: )
That sounds like a really interesting course Claire, might be worth looking it up as at the moment I'm just on Auto & Macro... not really sure how to properly use the other settings yet! Going to look up getting some different lenses soon aswell, need a good zoom one.

Here's a couple of photos I've taken:
