Avatar - any chance someone could help before I go mad?

Despite trawling the help threads I've been unable to get an avatar onto my profile.  I'm working on an iPad with photo bucket app.  I've tried copying various of the photo bucket links into the bit on my account page that I think I'm meant to do it on, and nothing happens (or a box and question mark appears).  The option to use my own photo is blanked out (ie unavailable)
 I'm usually fairly ok with technology but this has stumped me.

Can anyone help please?

Is the photo too big??  You can only upload so many KB's ??

I don't think you can do it from an iPad - or at least I couldn't work out how ;) You can post photos within a thread using photo bucket but your avatar is different because it is actually uploaded directly to the site from your computer. The only way I could do it was from my main computer not iPad or iPhone. Choose forum profile information and select I will upload my own picture. If you are on an iPad the choose file box is not available but it will be if you work from a computer. Select it, select your file and upload. Hopefully someone clevere will be along to tell us both how to do it from a mobile device.  :D

This may seem obvious but on the profile page I selected upload my own photo and then browse and the relevant photo was detailed - but how do I then upload it?  I guess I am just missing something easy?

Choose the photo from wherever on your computer that you store them and double-click it, or click Open - the photo should automatically be transferred to your profile, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click 'Change Profile' (I think I've got that right  ph34r)
