Out of interest, do you know if the breeder had done any health tests on her dogs? I honestly think you had a lucky escape - I'm not sure if what happened to you is something a reputable breeder would do :'(.

The breeder was someone who shows her dogs and this is the only litter she will be having.  This is the advert..I have censored the name and amount so hopefully I don't breach any rules.  Had phone and email confirmations but amazingly she said she "mislaid my phone number".  Kids are still upset.  Have emailed some breeders today to enquire about future litters.  Still feeling quite despondent though.
Thanks for the support from everyone...it means a lot.

Ad we responded to...........

I agree with others, you've had a lucky escape  :o If the breeder has treated you with so little respect and courtesy, then I would very much doubt that breeders integrity. It must be heartbreaking for you and your family, but the right pup will come along soon, have no fear of that  :luv:

This is what would also concern me.   It shouldn't be about 'non refundable deposits'   As a reputable breeders first priority is the best home to suit the puppy and nothing to do with getting a deposit. A genuine true lover of their puppies will always want the best for them and do their utmost to have the welfare of the puppies life and health in mind.  :D

I've found the ad and there are a couple of photos of presumably the parents of this litter - I'm sure they're lovely pet Cockers but they certainly don't look like much show dogs and the ad doesn't read like the breeder has much experience of showing (no show person would talk about a "championship pedigree" for example & the bit about the deposit is more typical of commercially minded breeders). I'm really sorry you've had a bad experience with this breeder & that your children have been upset but you may find it was all for the best in the end as hopefully you will find a much better breeder in time - I'd avoid the free ad sites if you can though - try ringing your local breed club instead for recommendations.

Hi, I spent last weekend emailing and phoning breeders on the Kennel Club website and we have found another puppy!
We have located another blue roan boy and he looks very cute.  Have followed everyones advice and seems to be going well this time!
Also got  lots of good advice from the people I phoned whose litters had already sold.
Fingers crossed Louie will be with us soon!
Thanks everyone!  :luv:

That's great news  :D. Have you been to see him yet?

Fingers crossed that your Louie will be a better sleeper than my Louis, who still doesn't sleep through the night after 4 weeks with me!

Thats lovely news.  :D  How old is Louie and have you seen him yet?  If not good luck for when you first meet him.  :D  It is also nice for you to see that mum & pups are in a clean, warm, safe, homely environment.  :luv:
