Title: Changing from crate to dog bed
Post by: Ladys tramp on May 14, 2020, 10:25:37 PM
Any  suggestions or tips on how to get our cockers lady and tramp to move from staying in there crate overnight to using dog beds. Both are a year old with no mishaps over night in the crate

Do they prefer the crates over the beds? I would just keep the doors open and let them choose. Or remove the crates and put the beds where the crates were. They will probably get used to the beds soon

Never been a fan of crates, though I appreciate there may sometimes be a need for one.

Ditch 'em. Then it's either a bed or the floor.  Guess which one they'll choose?

First try today for half an hour while we popped out. No drama or mishaps. Going slow and trying  not to set the dogs up to fail.

I would give them the choice. Leave the crate open and let them decide. Some dogs love their crate and choose to sleep in there as it is their safe space. If all goes well, then you can get rid of the crate if you want.  ;)

We were advised to get a crate for Daisy by her foster mum.  Got one thinking we would use it for around 6 months and that would be that.  Despite numerous beds all around the house and being able to cosy up on the couch beside us, Daisy loves her crate.  It's her very own cosy spot, covered on three sides, a duvet for a mattress and pretty close to the radiator.  There is no way she is giving that up!  We never close the door, she wanders in and out at will.
