Thanks everyone - I can't claim sole responsibility though, the mod team as a whole have been working hard over the past few weeks to set it all up. :shades: The celebs and their agents have all been brilliant and so helpful - reading them talk about their dogs shows they are all just as Cocker crazy as the rest of us. :shades:
Re the charity fundraising - if anyone wants to raise money through ebay auctions, things for sale etc, we will be relaxing the forum rules as long as all profit goes to the The Dogs Trust... ie you won't need to seek permisssion before posting. You can use the Shopping board for this.

No, sorry if your dog is still a puppy on the last day of competition you can post in the puppy section.
Cutest Puppy - any Cocker pup that is 12 months or under on the closing date of the competition, 31/5/08.
Handsomest Dog & Prettiest bitch - any Cocker that is 12 months or older on 31/5/08.
If your dog's first birthday happens to fall on 31/5/08, you can decide which class to enter. Please only enter him/her in one of the above named classes.

I don't know if I ever told you guys but Rodaidh has three brothers who also all like to pull funny faces, they're called Podie, Schmodie and Bodie and I'll be putting in photos of all four of them because y'know, it wouldn't be nice to leave them out :shades:

Tip for all - When resizing a photo that is 'landscape' insert width=640, but when it is 'portrait' insert width=480. ;) :D

Got to admit though that I love Jeans entry in 'Star' class- everyone at work has fallen in love with it and with Jeans permission I would love to print a copy for the staff room. In our defence, we weren't expecting so many entries. Looks like there's going to be even more this year... there were about 600 entries last year, in the first 2 days this year we've already had 200 !

Haven't posted for a while, but often pop into keep up to date. I loved last years competition, so have been keeping an eye out.
Loved all the pics and put a few on there of the "ginger one".
Hope that's not taking too much of a liberty, seeing as I haven't posted in a bit - just more for the enjoyment of seeing all the pics really.

A slight update to the rules - can we ask that people don't enter the same photos they put into the competition last year please. Thanks.
A big thank you to everyone that has already given to the Dogs Trust appeal - it's going so well we've increased our target to £1000, I'm sure we can beat it. :D Jane has set up a special fundraising section on the Competition Board for anyone that has anything they want to sell, raffle, auction etc ( including Ebay links). Items don't have to be dog related* - we just ask that all profits go to The Dogs Trust.
*But nothing that would be considered inappropriate on a family forum please. ph34r :lol2:

I was just re-reading the thread about the Judges earlier cos I was showing it to my Mum who's a big Martin Clunes fan :005: and we were saying that the photos on there of them with their cockers are really lovely and their stories about their dogs are great, like John Barrowman getting his first cocker from Valentino :shades: ... I'd take a cocker over a fancy frock any day as well :lol2: and Dandy is a perfect name for a dog belonging to LLB... half cocker half curtain tassel :005:

Yep it was great of them to send us all the info and photos - I loved reading their bits about their dogs. We'll probably save John Barrowman's piece somewhere on the site - given how busy he is it was amazing he found the time to write all that for us. I don't know if anyone listened to Mark Radcliffe last week ( he was covering for Steve Wright in the afternoon) - Toto got mentioned a couple of times, even got a record dedicated to him ... 'this is for you Toto, sitting at home in the kitchen listening. Good boy !' :shades:

Only members who joined before the beginning of the comp are eligible to enter & yes we are keeping an eye on that side of things ;) I know it might seem irritating if newbies have entered without introducing themselves but try not to be too hard on them please - we don't want to frighten anyone away :D

Me and my family are really enjoying looking at the photo comp pics every day. We are all saying that we wouldn't want to be a judge as its just too hard. Well last night i had a very vivid dream that because i was the millionth person to come on cocker's on line i then had to judge all the categories ! It was really horrible as i kept changing my mind, my family were complaining because i was soo busy looking at the pics i didn't have time to cook or clean or go any where. I started having pressure of the col mods who were sending me nasty emails telling me to hurry up. Anyway it got to the august school holidays and i still hadn't decided when there was a knock on the door- know i don't know what Colin looks like but in my dream he was about 8 foot tall and looked a bit like a scary version of Hagrid out of harry potter!!! He had come to give me a big telling off for taking so long. I woke up in such a state my heart was really racing so badly that i had to take my heart tablet in the middle of the night instead of first thing in the morning!
Now that Ive recovered from my ordeal and told my oh ,he thinks its funny but i think i had better stop viewing the entry's as another dream with the very big and scary Colin in could be the end of me :005:

When we had to judge the charity photo comp it was a nightmare as you do constantly change your minds, in the end we sat down and spent 60 minutes or so going through them and didn't look again.. just posted them up before we changed our minds again...
I think that would be a nice dream for me, all I dream about is trying to choose a pushchair....

Just a reminder that the competition only has a few days left to run now, so if anyone is planning on entering photos they need to do it before midnight on Saturday.
Also a reminder re the Dogs Trust fundraiser - we've already raised almost £2000 which is absolutely brilliant, so thanks to everyone that has contributed so far through donations, raffles and auctions etc. :shades: Although donations are voluntary, it would be nice if as many people as possible who've entered photos could make a contribution. The minimum donation Just Giving accepts is £2 - all those £2 s quickly add up to help a worthy cause. Just one set of results in so far. Last year it took me 4 hours to type out the results, add in the winners photos and to put cyber rosettes on the threads - so even if the rest of the results come in soon, I might not have time to do it all until the weekend. Sometimes the best photos are the ones that are taken on a little basic camera then uploaded and entered as they were taken without any fancy editing. Which is a good job cos thats all i knew how to do :005: and then it was a trauma :005:

I agree too! I have editing software and everytime I try to use it the photo turns out worse than the original so it just ends up being a waste of time >:(

I know that's not whats being judged, but you can't deny that a nice quality clear close up photo has much more of a chance of winning. These kinds of pictures are much easier to achieve with a more decent camera.

My problem is getting him to sit still long enough to take a decent picture. He's so much cuter in the fur than on film, definately. Pictures don't portay character too well when the character has ants in his furry little pants >:(

jan, i know what you mean- there is a wow factor when a photo looks like it could be in a gallery but all of the dogs definitely shine through in their pics regardless. :)

Heh heh I think a good camera does make a difference (she says green with envy.. I will have one ONE DAY!!!)
Norms is very easy to photo - she's a decent size and her coat reflects the light well to show her gorgeous muscles and movement - you can see how athletic she is and how much presence she has very easily - good camera or not. But Dave just isn't photogenic I haven't taken a single pic of him that I think sums up how lovely he is and what he's about. He's not a very 'in your face dog' and his colouring doesn't seem to help either as it just absorbs the light and doesn't show any real definition :005: I need to find someone with a good camera to see if that's the way to get 'Dave' in print pixals :005: :005:

I was thinking that - I'd have found it absolutely impossible!!!! Might make it easier I guess if you're not on the forum regularly and know very little about each dog/owner but still.... phewey!

All of the judges had such difficult decisions, can't believe how many entries there were in some of the classes ;) It's a good job we were limited to one picture per dog per class... I've just entered one on another site when you can submit as many as you like ph34r

Yep Mrs T is right - a link to the class winners has been sent to Marting Clunes to decide BIS and RBIS. As soon as we get his decision we'll post the results. Winner of BIS will receive a specially designed Chow Bella bowl, Reserve will get a Cocker Spaniel book ( the one that has some of last year's competition photos in) - prizes kindly donated by Claire and Jane. :shades:
