So pleased the dratted seed is now out - well done Jarvis' body and his caring Mum  :D

Alice had something almost identical last year - it came to a head and without the benefit of my glasses all I could see was something 'alien' emerging from her paw - gave me a right old fright  :005:  I was struck by how pliable it was when it popped out, but within in minutes of being in the open air the darned thing had become as sharp as a needle - vicious things these seeds  ph34r

Sorry to be a pain, but doing a quick search on silica i've found its a supplement for human skin, hair and nails. Is that the one you need to use?

Have read this thread with interest.  Glad Jarv is now on the mend.

How on earth do they get into a dog's skin?
I can understand how a "foxtail" seed could travel up a nose or into an ear, but is it just unlucky that Jarv stood on the pointy-end of one that pierced his skin like a needle?

Crikey.....I could get quite paranoid about even taking Lola for a walk......grass seeds, adders, mud.... :shades:

Thank goodness its out, so hopefully his foot will be on the mend.

Wilf had one 1 year that had wedged between his toes and it came up like Jarv's did (Wilf's was like a cherry tomato stuck between his toes)- vet had to remove it as all of it wouldn't come out.

the one Jarvis had definitely 'travelled' like foxtails do...and having got a foxtail out of Fudges paw on Sunday it's unbelievable how they burrow :fear:  about 3 mm sticking out of her skin out of a 1 inch seed, and for the size of the seed it left quite a big hole  :-\

It's not going to stop us walking him, and being perfectly honest there are very few grass seed free places around here to walk him....just have to be extra vigilant.

Penny, the swelling is gone and it's almost healed already  :o (thank goodness...)
