Lump on head
« on: August 20, 2012, 12:53:28 PM »
We don't know how he did it, but three weeks ago Dennis suddenly appeared with a great big lump on the back of his head, which swelled up to the size of a tennis ball. The vet thought he had burst a blood vessel and prescribed him anti inflamotories.

It has gone down a lot now, but last week we were still concerned and he was prescribed more tablets and the vet said she thought he has damaged the bone that attaches to the ligament connecting to his spine..

It's still here now and I worrying it will never go down and we are hoping to show him but will not be able to with this on his head.

Has anybody else had this problem before?

John

I haven't any experience I'm afraid, I just wanted to say I hope little Dennis is okay and his lump continues to go down.

oh poor wee Dennis :luv:
the area is called the occipital
protuberance and is quite a
knobbly area anyway ,as you say because
the spinal ligaments are attatched.
I would be surprised if the lump
doesn't resolve itself naturally
over time

Steff

I has gone down quite a bit, but is still noticeable. Would this be frowned upon for showing purposes?

We have never shown our dogs before, as we have mainly had bitches and have had them speed. We are planning to keep Dennis entire, so long as his behaviour remains calm.

Ooo I know nothing abouT showing !
He's about 4 months I think so there
will be changes with the shape of
his skull as he matures anyway.
I hope someone with showing experience
will see this and be able to give you
proper advice.
Will you show him as a pup?

No, I think we will wait until he is 12 months, but will try out little shows with him. He won cutest puppy at a local show 4 weeks ago
