Self-induced vomit and now swallowing / gulping a lot.
« on: October 02, 2016, 08:22:59 AM »
Yesterday Henry made himself regurgitate his breakfast by furiously eating lots of grass. I'd fed him a little too much to finish a can so thought that might have been why. But ever since he has been swallowing / gulping every few minutes. I haven't fed him anything since and he hasn't asked. Is this swallowing something to worry about? He had an off-lead walk in the woods before he was sick, so I'm wondering if he ate something he shouldn't and has a blockage.

I would visit the vet to check that all is ok, he may well have eaten something so best to be safe.

How is he in himself? Is he drinking water and keeping it down?
He could just have a bit of a tummy bug.

Could he have a seed or bit of stick stuck in his throat?

It does sound like either something stuck or a sting maybe, if he's not eaten anything since breakfast yesterday, then it might be an idea to let the vet have look, - if it is a grass seed it probably won't dislodge by itself.
Hope you're feeling better soon Henry!! Keep us posted!

Thanks for the replies everyone. He ate plenty of treats out on our walk this morning (that loose leash training!) and I haven't noticed any swallowing or gulping since. He had a decent poo as well, which was all the grass and leaves he ate yesterday after being sick, so hopefully no blockage. Drinking well too. I'll keep an eye on him, hopefully whatever it was has worked it's way through.

That's good! 'Suppose it could have  been grass blades, they can be a bit sharp.
Glad he's ok!
