Jem - American Cocker (Oldies Club)
« on: September 28, 2016, 10:06:01 PM »

Jem is a 10 year old American Cocker Spaniel boy who was bred in the US. He came into the Oldies Club rescue when his owner’s landlord stopped allowing dogs. He is in an Oldies Club foster home in Norwich, Norfolk, waiting for someone to offer him a permanent home.

Jem is a wonderful, gentle boy who quickly makes himself at home and will quickly gain a place in your heart. He travels well in the car and enjoys his walks. He is sociable and can live with a dog or cat, but he needs to be fed separately as his main love is food! And, given the slightest opportunity, he will raid the bin!

Jem enjoys short bursts of playing and running around with other dogs when off lead on walks. He is currently living with an Oldies Club sponsor dog and gets on well with him. Jem can be food possessive though, so is given meals and treats separately to the other dog.

Jem took a week to realise he didn’t need to chase the fosterer’s cat. Now he is happy to share sleeping and sofa space with the cat and he tolerates the cat headbutting him for attention. He does react to cats outside the home though.

Jem loves people, but due to his attitude to food, and tendency to steal food, he would be best with children aged over 8.

Jem isn’t a to-heel kind of dog. He can pull in his excitement and he enjoys zigzagging on walks. Offlead he is good unless there is food or poop around. He will bolt if there’s a gate left open, so secure areas are best for Jem, but he will stay closer to you if there are no distractions. He is currently having two walks a day, totalling around 2 hours, plus garden let-outs.

Jem would love to have lots of attention. He is used to sharing his home with other animals, as long as he doesn’t get ‘left behind’ and has lots of attention showered on him. He loves people and would be a willing companion for an older child or children who want to take an active part in caring for a dog.

Health notes: Jem is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea treated. He has recently had a benign growth removed from near his anal gland under his tail. The vet has said this should not return. When Jem came to Oldies Club, both his ears had a heavy fungal infection, which has now been cleared up. Jem has had some warts removed – he still has a few but they do not bother him.

If you would like to offer Jem a permanent home, please read our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club rehoming co-ordinator as follows:
