is this normal?
« on: October 19, 2014, 09:03:15 PM »
Oscar is 14 weeks old now and my dads blue roan cocker Harry is 18 months old. They spend quite a bit of time together as my dad picks Oscar up from my house about 1130 and takes him up to his house to spend rest of day there. We are also up there at weekends and some evenings-its just sooo noisy, Oscar being the noisy one! It sounds as though he is being vicious! Oscar wants the bone Harry has and Harry lets him take it, then they swap again. They play with Oscar making all these scary noises but Harry keeps going back for more- it doesn't make for a relaxing Saturday night! Is this normal puppy behaviour, do I have a bully on my hands?, should I intervene when all this noise is going on? will it get better as Oscar gets older? My Jarvis didn't like Harry at all when Harry was a puppy and with Jarvis not being well I didn't want t stress him out at the time so I'm not sure if all this noise is just Oscar playing

Some puppies are really noisy when they play, and it sounds like Oscar is one of them :lol2:. If Harry looks to be happy with the situation I wouldn't worry too much, but if you think Harry is becoming stressed (doesn't sound like it from your description) you could separate them for a while. Separating them every so often might be good for your sanity and relaxation too :D

William used to play really noisily with his 2 adult Golden Retriever friends when he was a puppy and used to be at my friend's house for a few hours every day. He was so confident with them and they were very good natured.

Does Oscar socialise with other dogs at all? It could be a bit tricky if he starts to think that all other dogs will be as tolerant as Harry is. He might get a bit of a telling off if he tries the noisy, boisterous play with all the dogs that he meets.

Oscar goes to a puppy class and it's like he is a different dog! We have been going for 3 weeks now and he is only now beginning to get confidence to go up to the other pups but only for a quick sniff nothing at all like he is with Harry!

I have 2 younger dogs and they often play really noisly together (just as Wilf & Roobs did when they were a lot younger and even now Wilf will sometimes join in very noisily with the other 2) and I have to switch the volume of the TV up to hear it, but they don't play the same way with other dogs when out (some might though) and not as noisy.

When mine play Ted is really, really noisy :020: a horrible high pitched noise he makes but the last couple of weeks he has stopped doing it, he is ten months, so maybe it was a puppy thing although I have to admit the water pistol did come out twice.  :D
