Teeth
« on: August 15, 2012, 07:16:18 PM »
Piper's teeth are just shockingly bad! She has had 2 dentals and almost 20 teeth removed but those that are left are covered in plaque again and the smell is awful. I haven't been able to brush her teeth as she is very handy at nipping if you attempt to do anything (touch her feet, brush her ears, touch her mouth  >:() am I am wondering whether anyone has tried the Petzlife Oral gel?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000PICBOA/sr=8-2/qid=1345054262/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&qid=1345054262&seller=&sr=8-2

I am thinking of giving it a go for 3 months before giving in and booking her in for another dental

I've got the oral gel but not for plaque removal. The gel is like tooth paste so if you can't use tooth paste then it might be pointless. They also do a spray of the same thing, charlie wasn't impressed with the spray though.

I started a post on this last year.  I did see results on it teeth much whiter, though I have to confess I have not used it recently keep forgetting to put it on last thing at night.   It did make Jessie sneeze when I applied it.

Rather than use spray or gel
could you try giving her some
low fat chews; here I'm thinking
trachea and sinew (like Zooplus do)
or a recreational bone as it's more
likely to shift plaque (mechanical
removal)
steffxxx
I most go on the website and look
at the "science" as my understanding
is that plaque can only be removed
by mechanical means.
Big hugs to Piper  :luv:

We had good results with both the gel, and latterly the spray for Boysie's teeth. Would Piper be able to gnaw on a bone? That's what kept Smudge's teeth gleaming.

I would highly recommend Plaque Off. We tried the gel with Ruby but it was a bit fiddly to use. You just sprinkle a bit of Plaque Off on their food each day. It took about 2 to 3 weeks for us to notice a difference and after that they gradually improved. Now her teeth are really clean (the vet commented on them at her last check up). She is 5 and we have probably been using it for a couple of years now.

I have tried the plaque off and the CSJ version with no success. She is unable to chew anything hard due to lack of teeth and basically gums most hard things! She has dried food but swallows it whole and when she accidentially gets given a bonio or something I usually remove it from her mouth after  afew minutes after she has attempted to choke on it  :-\

I will get the gel and pin her down to see if it works, thanks everyone!

Try CET Aquadent http://www.animeddirect.co.uk/cats/healthcare/dental/vet-aquadent-250ml.html
Used to use on my old bischon who we rescued and came with really bad teeth. Seemed to work for him.

Good luck

I looked at aquadent, but it put me off as it has xylitol in it.
Thought this was toxic to dogs.

It was recommended by my vet. He lived a healthy long life despite coming to us with a heart murmur caused by his rotten teeth when we rescued him.
I'll def look up those ingredients again for toxicity before using it again though in case it is.
