Problems with spine
« on: September 29, 2018, 01:52:10 PM »
Hi all

Anyone have experience with spine problems and slipped discs? Honey is now 10 and been diagnosed with degeneration of the lumbar vertebrae and moderate slipped disc at T12. Vet wants to operate but with a few days rest she seems almost back to normal.

We?ve discussed all options and don?t think enforced crate living post op would be kind as she?s never been caged and is very anxious.

Input would be appreciated thankyou

Big Hugs to Honey.
IVDD is horrible as it amazing how much pain our lovely cocker can hide from us.
If Honey seems improved in just 3 days, it may be because of the pain & anti inflammatory she?s been given

Did the Vet give you a couple of options?  Surgery or Non Surgery? Which ever options cage rest is a key part of their recovery.

Have a look at the Fitzpatrick website there?s some really useful information about IVDD. The majority of information I found was from US websites or relevant to Dashi?s

There are a few cockers on Cockers Online who have IVDD

Darwin was paralysed in March 2016
He had an MRI and surgery at the RVC.  Surgery was our only option.
The long road of recovery followed, Yes, this did involve a lot of total cage rest followed by small space rest and hasn?t been easy for him and us, But even with all his issues we have a very happy cocker whose tail never stops wagging
