What does fox poo actually smell like?!
« on: November 21, 2012, 11:53:34 PM »
Henry's smelling rather skunky/musky today, and I'm not sure if it's fox poo or not (he was rolling around with a young pup this morning and was very mucky). I did some searching around old posts on here and most people just wrote that it smells awful, but didn't describe what the smell is actually like! Does anyone have a good description? I didn't see anything on the ground, but it's really muddy and covered in mulchy leaves at the moment, so anything could be lurking there. I live in London, so presumably the fox poo is a bit different as they eat out of human bins.

I've shampooed the bottom of his ears, where the smell seemed to be the strongest, but he still smells a bit odd overall. No idea if this is fox poo or not, or something else.

No-one any ideas?!
The smell's still there this morning. I think it must be fox poo.

Believe me, you will know when your dog has rolled in fox poo - you will not be able to stand having him anywhere near you.   :lol2:

Though it does sound like Henrys rolled in something unpleasant.

They find badger poo very attractive too - which I think smells like the bottom of a very strong ashtray!

Fox poo is just  :020: :020: and Jinley loves it - it is her favourite.

Tomato sauce is the best way to get rid of the smell.

Okay, just had another close sniff of his ears, and it's only on one of them, and it does smell a bit like burnt bacon and not very pleasant. I guess his ear must've dipped in some! Not quite sure how to apply tomato ketchup - presumably use it like shampoo? Put some on, kneed it into his ear and then wash out (and then shampoo?).

He also gets nasty little clogged bits of muck in the fur at the ends of his ears (usually white-ish, which I sometimes try to pick out, but he's not too keen on it and I've occasionally made it bleed  ph34r), so maybe this'll help with that too.

Hmmm, just went to the park and one of the other kind dog owners had a sniff of the offending ear ( :020:) and thought his ear smelt of fox wee instead.
He's being a right little b*gger today - so don't know if this has anything to do with it!

Blimey, they must be a real connoisseur if they can tell the difference between fox wee and fox poo!  :o :lol2:

Who knows which it is! All I know is that i'm going to try neutralising it with a tomato ketchup ear-wash (after watching Countdown - my second favourite activity of the day after my morning cocker snuggles!). Hopefully that'll work.

When I went into Pets at Home yesterday I saw a shampoo called FOX POO. It claimed it could get rid of the fox poo smell and any other poo smell that your dog has rolled in. Not tried it myself so don't know if it actually works, but it could be worth a try since fox poo smells gross and seems to take ages to get rid of the smell. Woody just loves rolling in anything that stinks, but fortunately he hasn't rolled in fox poo for a while. (no doubt famous last words.)

The only word to describe the smell of fox poo is 'indescribable'!.

Ruby body surfed in some this morning......i would describe the smell as

******* putrid. It is a smell like no other to compare it to.

As someone with hardly any sense of smell i sure could smell her when the wind was in the right direction.  :020:
People laugh at me because I'm different, but I laugh at them because they are all the same.
