Title: Rosie at the vets - healing thoughts please
Post by: JohnK on July 16, 2013, 04:35:40 PM
We found a little lump on Rosie's leg which we have been monitoring, it seems to have reduced in size, but thought it better to go and have her checked out.

The vet thinks it is just a fatty lump, but has taken a FNA and so we are awaiting the results. I just hope its clear as I can't bare the thought of my little girl having to have further surgery

Sending Rosie lots of love and healing thoughts to her, I had the same experience with Louis a couple of months back, a lump appeared on his side out of the blue, it grew quickly and the vet said it could be a number of things so did a needle biopsy from the result he said Louis needed an operation to have it cut out, we were so worried and the result was a benign tumour

Fingers crossed that Rosie's will be nothing to worry about :luv:

Positive thoughts coming Rosie's way. Hopefully they'll be able to get it all out and I'll keep fingers crossed that it hasn't spread. Will the melanoma vaccine not possibly help? Not sure how available it is though.

I have just found this article on the web

It says skin melanomas are usually but not always benign, but also that cocker spaniels are particularly susceptible.

Charley was diagnosed with a malignant melanoma about three years ago.  He had it removed and made a complete recovery.  I'm sure Rosie will be fine, but I know how worrying it can be.

This was Charley at the vet's having his dressing changed.

I have a little weep every now and again, but I have my hands full at the moment with Henry.  His Epilepsy is not controlled and he was at the vet's on Tuesday for blood tests.  I got the results about ten minutes ago, and the vet has prescribed an adjunct to his Epiphen.  It's quite worrying.

She is home! Chris the vet says he suspects it is not cancerous, if it is they have caught it very early so he feels the prognosis is good. They have sent it to the lab to make sure.

She is a bit groggy, but has just eaten her chicken and had a treat. The blue bangle is where she had the catheter, the wound is open and we have to put a collar on her at night

Elaine, she is doing great thank. We have just been up to Rutland water and whilst Minnie, Dennis and our sons dog Ruby were running around madly, Rosie has a gentle stroll on her lead. We met another couple of cockers, a 4 month old chocolate worker and a 7 year old black and white show type and a very overweight 6 year old orange roan who lives in France with its owner. She said its parents were big, but at 18kg for a dog the size of Rosie (she is 12.8kg) its what you call obese, poor dog couldn't run  >:D >:D

Pleased to hear she's doing well.  Is she wearing a "lamp shade?"

I bought one of these for Charley when he had his melanoma removed.  Much more comfortable than a lamp shade.

Rosie was licking her wound earlier so had to put on her collar, she is not happy. She has a check up today at 4.20

The vets have been on today to say the lump was non malignant. They can often appear as melanoma on a FNA, but she has now been given the all clear. Pauline can't remember the exact words, but something along the lines of non malignant hyper pigmented  :clapdance: :dance04: :cool4: :004: :015:

Sorry folks. The "lump" was a cyst and benign and yesterday she had the all clear on the wound.

If you had seen her bouncing through  the fields last night, you would never have known. She is a tough little girl who is loved to bits  ;) :shades: ph34r :005:

So pleased to hear that all is well (sorry taken me a while to catch up)!  Fern has a little lump on her side, the vet said to keep an eye on it for any change.  Her mum has had lots, and some removed which were all fatty lumps so we have everything crossed that this is the case for Fern.

Well done Rosie  :luv:
