Title: Lara is having surgery tomorrow - sad update p7
Post by: ejp on September 30, 2013, 01:55:10 PM: Since Lara was last in the vets, things were a bit up and down, back to the vets a few times. We seemed to be okish, but went downhill in the last few days. Took her to the vet on Saturday and he wanted her back in for another x-ray. So off we went this morning. The x-ray showed liver and spleen still enlarged, the bowel is thickened, and there is a dense patch up toward her stomach. There is a bit of bowel that looks like a hose. An ultrasound was then done, it showed that the pyloris (which is the bit that leaves the stomach) is thickened as is the intestine attached to it.
Bloods show a raised white cell count, and all other indicators are normal.
Lara will have surgery tomorrow, probably in the morning. The vet will biopsy anything he thinks may be cancerous. May also take out and rejoin the bowel depending on the damage. The pyloris he will stretch ( I think). Praying there is nothing he wants to biopsy.

Lara had surgery this morning and things are not great.
The vet removed 8-9 inches of bowel, there was a tumour wrapped around it.
The vet said the rest of her bowel is very fragile, it was like stitching mince.
He thinks he has got it back together ok now.
Her spleen had multiple tumours and that has been removed too.
Lara also has a heart murmur.
Bit shell-shocked with all this. hooping she makes it through the next few hours.
Please, please,please pray for our girl. xx

I spoke to the vets about 4.30 and she was awake :luv: On lots of pain meds obviously, but apparently looking around her. Going to call back later just to check again.
