Title: Poorly doggy
Post by: *Jay* on September 18, 2006, 08:05:41 PM
I think Dally Wally Doodlebug is coming down with something as he has been turning his nose up at food since yesterday - he hasn't had anything to eat since his breakfast yesterday :o Even when he has been ill in the past, he has always wanted his nosh :-\ He even refused a gravy bone earlier on :o  He isn't drinking much, just standing at the water bowl looking at me so I checked his mouth but I can't see anything untoward. He's not bothered about his walks either and when he is out, he is walking perfectly to heel!! He has been lying in the bedroom since I came home from work 3 hours ago - its lovely having a nice, calm, whinge free Dallas but I'm getting quite worried now ;) I'm going to see how he is tomorrow and if he isn't much better, then I'm going to try and get him an appt for tomorrow evening. Vegas has an appt for Wednesday afternoon but I don't know if I want to leave Dallas that long if he is still not himself :-\

Oh poor Dallas - feel better soon mate!!  :luv: ;)

Max was like this the other day when he had a tummy bug - he only actually retched a couple of times & wasn't actually properly sick at all, but was off his food for well over 24 hours & was very mopey & sleepy & dis-interested in everything for a couple of days or so - he soon bounced back though, after much worrying on my part. Maybe Dallas has got a bit of a bug or something, poor chap.

Hope he gets better soon  :luv:  They are a real worry when they're off colour - Ben is also not himself today but will post separately.

Let us know how he gets on.

You miss all that bouncing when they are off-colour, don't you?

I do hope it's just that he's a bit out of sorts today, and that he'll back to normal tomorrow.

Hope Dally Wally is feeling a bit better this morning Gill   It's lovely when you have a nice calm dog and you relish it for the first few hours but if things don't improve you'd do anything to have them back to normal wouldn't you

If he's still not drinking then I would be off to the vets too ;)

Awww poor boy! try not to worry Gill, remember when Nell had that big lump on her throat.   It was rock hard and enormous, it was realy scary, it turned out to be an infection, and started to go down in a few days with the medication.....Fingers crossed thats what it is with Dallas.

Ouch  ph34r

Hopefully, it is just an infection -  "orchitis" I think is the medical term; its actually quite common in humans, but men don't like to share  ph34r I'm sure if it was anything more serious, then there would have been some indication when he had his recent op  ;)

Gentle ((hugs)) to Dallas - lots of healing thoughts  :luv:

Do you think it has anything to do with the vasectomy?

That thought did occur to me but unfortunately it was after I had left the vets ph34r  The vet who did the surgery will be in today so I will tell him whats happened and see what he thinks.

On the plus side, he appears to be a bit better in himself so hopefully the injections have helped and the tablets can carry that on

According to our vet who did the surgery, its not going to be a tumour but could be related to the op. If it doesn't clear though, then we could be looking at castration - apparently, the colour drained from my face at the mention of that :005: :005: But if it has to be done then so be it.

Oh big phew - at least it's not a tumour!!!!!!!!!!!!  Thank god for that!!!!!!!!!!  :D Ah well - if he has to lose his plums then so be it - small price to pay for him to be well though I guess - poor Dallas!!!!  :005: :luv: :005: Get better soon mate!!  ;)

So glad to hear that it's unlikely to be a tumour.

Dallas will probably be eternally grateful to you for it if it means no more pain. He wont be the one feeling bad.

Just back from the vets and she was pleased with how he has responded to the medication. There is still a thickened area but it is not causing him any pain so he has to go back in another 2 weeks to have it checked again.  She did ask me if I was planning to breed from him so I don't know if castration might still have to be an option - I was too scared to ask incase it put ideas in her head :005:

She did ask me if I was planning to breed from him so I don't know if castration might still have to be an option - I was too scared to ask incase it put ideas in her head :005:

If it is Orchitis (which is a nice general term for inflammation of the testicles secondary to infection), then it carries with it a risk of sterility, which may be why she asked  ph34r
This is how the mumps infection can cause sterility in men - but if it is one-sided, then it usually leaves the other side undamaged  ;)

The vet we saw this evening (who may just be the best looking man in the whole world - think I will change my rating of my vets to excellent just for him alone :luv:) had a good feel of the offending testicle and although there is still a slight thickening, he isn't concerned about it and has signed him off :D We did discuss castration but he agreed that it would be a drastic measure on the account of one infection that responded well to treatment but if it was to recur, then we may need to think again but he doesn't see any reason why it won't just be a one-off

No, not a kiwi....why? Do they have a reputation?
Phew  :D That's good.  Not at all (although choccydrop may know what sort of reputation if they do   ;) ). but mine was a Kiwi, gorgeous to look at and quite charming. If you have a look at my thread of last week 'Would you dump your vet if they drank?' you will understand the  :-\  . He has now left the practice for pastures new, but I don't know where. He may still be practising in England and I was concerned  he may have turned up in your neck of the woods  ph34r .
