My puppy has chewed a bald patch on his leg
« on: March 26, 2014, 04:59:20 PM »
Hello all,

My 16-week old Cocker Spaniel, Ollie is always nibbling the "knuckle" part of one of his legs. So much that he now has a small 1cm round patch which is almost bald, dry and a bit flaky. Is this normal?

Ollie is my first dog so hope you can give me some advice as I'm new to all this.  ph34r

Have you checked for any signs of a thorn or other foreign body? I think if he's always nibbling at the same area you might be best to take him to the vet and get it checked to find out the cause as it must be uncomfortable for him. In the meantime you could try gently applying something soothing like calendula ointment or sudocreme to see if that makes him more comfortable.
