Last Sunday Dennis was chewing at one of his back paws - when I looked there was a lump which he had made bleed so we went along to the vet. I was thinking it was a grass seed - when the vet looked she thought it was a histocytoma and prescribed an antibiotic and a gel and took some fluid from the lump. While we were there I mentioned he had a small lump on his side which I thought could be a bite as I had only just noticed it - she looked and said she wasn't sure but took some fluid from that too. When I phoned for the results she said the lump on his side had shown mast cells - which are quite nasty. He is going in Monday for the lump to be cut away and they need to achieve clear margins so need to cut away an area around the lump too. The sample from his foot was too bloody to get a result so while he is out they are going to take another sample. If this is mast cells too then there isn't much flesh to take away so from what I've read they would have to amputate his back leg, I know I'm getting ahead of myself - but I'm so worried for my special boy - he is only 6 and so well in himself, everytime I look at him I well up which I know doesn't help! So please send some positive wishes for him - best case will be that the foot lump is something else that isn't so serious.
