Kennel Cough
« on: August 23, 2005, 10:47:09 AM »
Back from holiday and Bailey has been coughing since Friday night.  He stayed with my MIL.  He has an appointment with vet tomorrow.

After reading back through previous threads, I am fairly certain it is kennel cough  :(  Im armed with children's Benilyn but I am not sure what dose to give him.  A child can have 4, 5ml doses in 24 hours.  Bailey has had a 3ml dose this morning.  How much and how often would anyone recommend.

Also he is on antibiotics (Cephalexin) for an infected toe, which he also got while I was away    Would it still be OK to give Benilyn (?sp) while he is on these?

Any advice appreciated.

PS: BTW - never leaving him again!!

Aww, poor Bailey  :(  No advise on the Benalyn I'm afraid - but don't let it spoil your hols - KC is rife at the moment - a couple of friends dogs picked it up last week from who knows where; they didn't change their routine at all    If he's on antibiotics his immune system will a bit out of balance, so this may explain why he picked it up...

I am sure Bailey will bounce back in no time and make up for you going away

Whenever mine have had it, I've given them the childrens dose ie 5mls 3-4 times daily. It's been rife around here too but, touch wood, mine have managed to avoid it so far.

Using Benylin won't affect the antibiotics so you can combat his infected toe and cough at the same time ;) Hope he is back on the mend soon
