Barney in status epilepticus
« on: September 15, 2007, 07:38:48 PM »
After a great two weeks in which Barney seemed to make a fantastic recovery from the toxicity of his medication the worst thing has happened. He began seizing this afternoon and had 6 seizures in two hours. We gave him diazapan which usually breaks the clusters and contacted the vet. Just after we came off the phone he began seizing again. This time we has continuous seizures with periods of unconsciousness so we rushed him into the surgery. The vet gave him more drugs intravenously but after an hour he was still in a state of seizure although no longer violent seizures. He has been admitted and is on a drip to try to stabilise him. We have been told that his body cannot take much more than this but he is a real fighter and such a happy boy in between seizures. The time period between seizures was stretching very well but our vet says that for Barney there is a very small window between the drugs being at a therapeutic level and at a toxic level.
:'( :'( Hoping that he still has the strength left to recover.
