What have you found good for arthritis?
« on: March 02, 2012, 11:30:23 AM »
Hi

Harvey has started limping on his front right leg when he first gets up after resting - it seems to ease when he's moved around a bit. (We've spoken briefly to the vet about it, but at the time Harv had just been diagnosed with cushings disease so the arthritis was not our priority on the day.)

Someone has suggested green lipped mussel tablets as something that would help ease the arthritis, and I know some people use glucosamine.

I'm a bit baffled by it all - has anyone found anything that works well that they would recommend?

Right, I'm off to massage his little leg now - he seems to like that  :luv:

Best wishes, Marian xx

I used the green lipped mussel with my old boy and it worked really well - I was able to drop his Metacam to a once a week dose.

First of all, your vet should check the leg out. It could be arthritis, but it could be a number of other conditions, including issues with the back end (so he shifts weight forward which can cause problems on the front leg).

If it is arthritis, then the following may help:

Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM
Devil's Claw
Turmeric
Salmon Oil
Green Lipped Mussel Extract

Hydrotherapy
McTimoney Chiropractor
Acupuncture
Magnetic collar
TTouch
Vera Marney
BSc (Hons) Canine Behaviour and Training, APDT UK

GO4 is a pure glucosamine which I've used with excellent results. Mobile Bones from Pooch & Mutt also excellent.  Magnetic collars or copper collars - brilliant.

Salmon oils, Rhus Tox and Devils claw.... there are so many products worth trying, just a case of finding what works best for you.

Are you coming to Crufts?  Just a suggestion Hall 1 - stand 24  ;)

Glyco III has been brilliant for Louis and his hip dyplacia, he has been on this approx 3 years or so now, started with 1 tablet then cut down to half each morning and it has made a dramatic difference to his life.
