It is heart breaking to lose a loved one to kidney failure.
We lost Daisy in 2004, on the Friday she seemed very lethargic, so Pauline took her to vets on Saturday, only to be told she had gone blind. She was 7. She was no better on Monday, so took her and was told it was an ear infection. When I got home on Monday night, she still staggered to meet me at the door, as she always did, but I suspected kidney problems then.
Took her again on Tuesday morning and said if it was serious, we wanted to be with her if she had to be pts. We were told, "oh its not serious, we will just do some bloods"
The bloods showed complete kidney failure and we were told to come back at 4 for her to be pts. At 12 we were told to come immediately as she had deteriorated so much. When we got there, she didn't even recognise us, yet she had actually walked in.
It was so upsetting and all so sudden. I vowed I would never have another dog, but after 7 weeks we rescued Danny, our springer who sadly died in May.
