Indie's third eyelid is protruding and swollen, he was fine about half an hour ago, and the vet doesn't open till 10am. Is this an emergency? I'm concerned.
I've checked online, and it looks like something called cherry eye.

Yes you need to see your vet Shona - good luck, hopefully it's nothing too serious but it does sound like it could be cherry eye. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks Jane, I'm phoning them now, I was so panicky when it happened!
Luckily we have pet insurance - Douglas was dead against it, but Im so glad we got it in case he needs an op or anything. I'll take him in and see what they say

:( Aww poor lil love, I hope all goes well at the vets, I have never heard of this condition before :?

Good luck at the vets Shona. I've not heard of cherry eye before, hope it isnt anything too serious.

Hi Shona, I hope Indies alright. What did the vet say?? :)
-
Hope everything is OK Shona...let us know :?

Awww, thanks everyone. We are just back, the vet said it was indeed cherry eye, a prolapse of the tear gland or something near? Anyway, he managed to pop it back in, and hopefully it'll stay in, which the vet said is what we want, otherwise an op if it pops again.
He's got anti inflammatory eye drops, and we will take it easy today, not too much exertion apparently  don't think a cocker puppy will manage that somehow!

Awww bless, give him a big (((( hug )))) from me, for being such a brave boy. :)

Awww, thanks, will do. I was very proud of him actually, not a peep, wee soul, even when he popped it back, yuk!
We also had him weighed, and he's put on 6 kilos! He's now 14kgs, but the vet said he's perfect, just sturdy.
He's fast asleep now, and we are taking it very easy today,
thanks

That's good news Shona :) What a good boy Indie was at the vet - don't think I'd have kept quiet if someone was poking about with my eye

As a matter of interest, ive never heard of this before, exactly what happens to cause this?

It's a weakening of the ligament that holds the tear gland in, apparently, if I understood correctly. It's quite rare in cockers, much more common in labs the vet said, and not congenital, in his opinion, also totally unconnected to Indie's cataract, which is in the other eye.
It's horrible, looks like a big red tumour or *cherry* inside their bottom eyelid.

Wat a brave Chap! Glad you got to the bottom of it Shona and hopefully Indie will be back to his normal self soon :)

I've just seen this Shona :( Poor Indie, but what a brave wee boy. Glad that your vet managed to sort it. Give him lots of hugs and kisses (and ham, says Morgan)
Editted to say : The hugs and kisses for Indie......not your vet

LOL Shirley! Morgan has the right idea, Indie did have some minced beef for tea last night, and it was just the job. He's now mooching around feeling much better, and he's an angel getting his drops in, so so far so good. Hopefully it stays in, and no op.
Shona

Aw poor Indie! Hope he gets better soon, and in the meantime makes the most of a lot of fussing.

Bless him! Glad it turned out to be something minor.
