Just had my husbands Aunt visit, she has had dogs for many years and is a country lass, (keeps chickens, horses etc etc) Anyway she was delighted with Indie :D, and asked me had she been speyed yet, I told her she hadn't yet come into season  she advised me that I should be giving Indie garlic tablets until she is speyed, to reduce the risk of womb infection, sadly she lost a Schauzer to this at age 5 :( I had never heard of garlic helping with this :? I just wanted to know if anyone else does this/heard of this before :?:
Any thoughts

Hi Emma
I don't know about specifically stopping/preventing womb infections but garlic is often described as a natural antibiotic and can improve the body's natural defences and therefore help to fight off infections.
Loraine :)

Lots of owners give their dogs garlic as an every day supplement - as Loraine says, it's nature's antibiotic & also helps keep fleas at bay. However Indie is at extremely low risk of developing pyometra - it would be rare for a bitch so young to develop it so don't worry too much.

:) Thank you Loraine and Jane!
Is just ordinary garlic tablets ok to give? Or does it have to be doggie one? Alslo any idea what Mg to give her :?:

It doesn't have to be doggy ones - you can give the human grade capsules (1 a day). I used to add garlic powder to our gang's food but gave up as the smell was too indescribably awful (worse than raw tripe )

Hi Emma,
I also give Jess 1 garlic capsule a day. I give the human grade ones too.
