Hi guys - surprisingly I'm back home after leaving here at 7.00am this morning. 330 mile round trip having left Buddy in their capable hands for a good few days.
Initial consult and examination of yesterdays X-rays confirmed there is a problem with the discs in his back - but at that stage they were not sure of the extent. What they were worried about was how his pain seemed better although his general condition was worse. They thought the Spinal column/cord was compensating which can cause problems during and after surgery. So while they were optimistic of a positivie outcome, they could not rule out this compensating then exacerbating his condition. Apparently it's one of those on a knife edge situations.
So they decided to do a mylogram and would ring with their proposals while he was still under anaesthetic for us to decide. Either way they needed to keep him for a few days at least and they prefer owners not to visit as it does upset the dogs especially when the owners leave - so I left him
So I left Buddy in floods of tears etc etc as you can expect. The staff were brilliant and very understanding and helpful promising to ring with news as it arrived.
They phoned while I was driving home - about 2.30ish to say the mylogram result was promising showing only one disc affected and they are now much more confident that the surgery will be less complex and more sucessful than they were this morning. So that's some good news I guess.
and a Stop Press update - thetyve' just this minute phoned to say the surgery is over. It's gone as well as they'd hoped for with the wee chap being fast asleep now. They'll let him rest now and then perform further neurology tests in the morning to see how he's responded but they are very confident.
I'll post an update tomorrow.
And by the way - just a note for anyone thinking some form of savings plan/insurance isn't worth it - this is going to cost us around £2500 because for a number of pathetic reasons Buddy was not insured. Jasper will be insured this week! :
