This may sound stupid but if your dog has worms, is there any chance that it can be passed to humans aswel?  ph34r

Cant believe ive asked this question, but never mind  :005:

Yes, but only if you (AHEM) EAT THEIR POO!!

Sorry!!

Actually it can be a real problem if youve got toddlers or something, who might easily crawl or fall & get some poo on their fingers, then suck them. A good reason to keep the worming upto date & to wash hands CAREFULLY after cleaning up. (Also applies to cats - think litter trays)

Yes, I am a childminder and have to have our two wormed every month by the vet, with a signed worming certificate to say they have been done. ;)

How often do you worm your dogs (if not child minded children!).  Ben is wormed every couple of months with panacur with no evidence of invaders in his poo  ph34r  Could I leave it longer or is two months OK?

After been poorly advised when he was younger  ph34r - Molo is now wormed every three months with Drontal  ;)

We use Milbemax but only every 6 months on vets advice!

Is this enough?

We got millbemax from our vets tonight and they recommend that you worm every 3 months.

I was on a 6 month regime on the advice of the vet - until I was advised differently here on COL and visited the manufacturers website; and sure enough they recommend every three months (or more often in higher risk environments  ph34r;)

I was beginning to think I had misunderstood the vet - it seems I'm not the only one who has been given this advice  ::)

I think I'll leave Ben for 3 - 4 months then.  I just worry that he's getting medication when not needed.  The cost is minimal - £1.80 per dose.  His yearly boosters are due soon and I think that may be a bit more expensive  ;)

I was told to worm Charlie every 3 months but when I mentioned I was a childminder the vet said to worm him every 2 months.

In the dim & distant past when i were a lad  ph34r worming was a major operation - you had to starve the dog or cat for a day, force the worming syrup down their throats, the follow them around to clean up the poos/vomit to burn it as it happened. And believe me -IT HAPPENED.  :P :P(Sorry, not nice I know). In those days you did it twice a year, probably couldnt face it more often ;).  Nowadays things are much easier, for me & the dogs & cats, but the makers of these new, more efficient wormers say they should be used every 3 months. I cant help thinking they want to sell me as much of the stuff as possible, worms and dogs/cats havent changed their lifestages or anything. SO I still do it every 6 months except if anybodys pregnant (human or animal) or very young (again human or animal) .  Nobody seems to suffer & I havent seen a worm in years (GOOD!!!) . Guess Im just cynical or something. But I AM REALLY GRATEFUL for the new, modern wormers - the good old days, heh!! >:(
