Worming again?
« on: April 04, 2007, 06:09:16 PM »
Hi

Just a quick question.

Yesterday we wormed Boo as he was due a dose.  However, last night he was a bit poorly and vomitted (probably ate something in the garden).  Because he was wormed yesterday, I was wondering if it would have gotton into his system or if I should worm him again.

What do you think?

As long as he kept it down for an hour or so it should be fine. The exact same thing happened to Disney yesterday - I gave him his drontal early afternoon and he was sick later on in the evening  :P

dont think it was the wormer - although he really didn't want to swallow it, kept spitting the pieces out.  Dave (OH) said he had a bit of a runny tummy when he tokk him out on his work earlier in the day.  I suspect he'd eaten something in the garden.  It's his new favourite game so needless to say all the planters are being moved into the front garden today (doggy no go zone).

it is the wormer with jarvis - he was ok on puppy drontal, and projectile vom and diawotsit on adult drontal - i don't think we're alone in this, i've heard of a number of reactions with adult drontal.

helen & jarvis x

So what do you do?  Do you continue to give him Drontal?

I'll look out for similar probs next time we worm him.  I won't do it again now, as he had taken the tablet a good few hours before he was sick

Boo did have Milbemax the first time, but as we use Drontal for Coz we gave him Drontal this time.  As I said earlier, I don't think it was the drontal that made him sick, but I will be sure to keep an eye on him next time and if it happens again ....Milbemax it is.  Only problem it's a bit more tricky to buy over the internet as you need a prescription.

Milbemax is a great wormer, I love it and have never had any side affect, I usually just roll it up in a piece of ham to give to my dogs and that is it for 3 month's a really great product, never had any sickness or runny tums.

The vet also told me that if the dog was sick within 20 minutes of taking the tablet then to give another tablet as it will not have taken effect but after an hour the wormer has done its magic. Also it doesnt matter how fequently you worm (ie the following day/week/month) as the tablet will only kill what is already there (if anything) and doesnt protect them for a month it is only what is present at the time!
