OMG Vet has just phoned.  Pringle has FOUR grass seeds in her right ear  :o  He could get one without any problem, but the other 3 are right down her ear so she needs to be knocked out to get them out.  He is going to do it tomorrow as he has to go back to the horse with colic now (poor bloke must be exhausted!).  He's going to check her other ear as well just to be on the safe side.  Poor Pringle  :'( she is going to be so upset and worried tonight on her own in the vets.  The worrying thing is that these were picked up in our garden and it happened so quickly.  One minute she was just chasing her rugby ball and next minute ..... an ear full of grass seeds.  Any suggestions on what we can do to stop it happening again?

Poor Pringle bet your very upset now. They are horrible things.  You are gonna have to cut them down, are they the spiky type. Don't know what else to suggest, hope pringle is ok. Have you thought about a snood

How big is your garden? ...have a good lok around and see where they are and try and dig them up...Daisy got one in her ear from my garden a couple of years ago ..I didnt realise I had any but they were at the back of the border...have to keep an eye now ..if they come up I pull them out  ;)

Thinking of you and little Pringle (((hug))) x

Poor Pringle :(

She may not have got them today, she may have collected them over time and it was movement today that shifted them down further causing the sudden pain.

Do invest in a snood. Yes you may feel daft walking her while shes wearing it at first but they do save you so much heartache and cockers a lot of pain.

Hope Pringle isnt too stressed being at the vets over night

Yay, Pringle's home.  We picked her up at 4.30 and she is fine.  We were told to keep her calm as she would still be slightly groggy and quiet. Umm, try telling Pringle that.  She is racing around like a mad thing.  I have got ear drops to put in once a day for 5 days.  OH is off to America tomorrow for a week so that little joy will be left to me  ::)  Funny thing is, she can get really stroppy at home when we do things like check her paws or her ears and we did warn the vets that she could be quite difficult, but the vet said she was good as gold and showed no signs of aggression at all.  It is only us she seems to get in a strop with.  Still love her loads though and really happy she's home.  The house was so quiet this morning (cats were quite pleased though  ;))

Glad pringle is home and ok. Cockers are just like kids, play up their mums and dads and be as good as gold for someone else  >:(

hi my cocker is 2 in october and didnt realise till now how DANGEROUS the damn seeds are. coco has been so unlucky she's had and stil got demodex since she was 4 months old so treating her every week for that , numerous ear infections , bad bums etc and now which i stil cant believe she has got a migrating seed in her body . she was walked last thursday over our local fields , came back limping and found LOADS in her feet and armpits!! me and my mum spent a long time trying to pull them out which we thought we'd done successfully. then on the saturday took her to vets because lumps had appeared under her armpits , she was shaved and prodded , i was given anti biotics and was told to wait and see if it gets worse which if it did to bring back in. A few days later the lump had turned to a pussy blister then the next day went down which i thought great!! little did i know i was just about to get much much worse . I spoke to the vets thursday and got her an app yesterday, vet said yes we'll have to lance it to try get the seed out , he was giving her a quick check all over and said ooh how long has she had this , i felt and had a shock myself!! it was almost like a growth on her chest bone. ( sorry if im boring people) Any way he says right we'll lance the pussy lump under armpit  then x ray the growth. So i go home and wait...... he rings up saying she's stil under sedation shes had an ultra sound and xrays also lanced lump but found nothing , BUT in the xray shows almost a tunnel where the seed has moved up about 5 cm and the '' tunnel'' is where the skin is reacting to the seed passing through. he said does he have permission to opperate if needed i obviously said yes. .....a few hours on very worried not knowing whats going on , had a phone call asking to go up to talk about whats happened etc. Us thinking the absolute worst. arrived at vets and was told to come through the back , anxiosly waiting the vet telling us its not good and it didnt all go to plan, he went through all xrays and ultra sounds showing us the ''tunnel'' then the ''growth'' saying he did think it was a tumor but has proved to actuaaly to be filled with gassy fluid caused basically by the pussy lump. he then went on saying the position the seed is in can not be opperated on because it would mean cutting under the arm and cutting through major nerves muscle etc leading to the brain so that was a NO GO!! more confusing things were said so the plan is to basically take her in every couple of days for xrays to see where its travelled and hopefully it will travel to a place where they can quickly cut her open and get hold of it . being told this we were absolutely gobsmacked!! all this because of a bloody grass seed . we asked what the worst possible thing could happen and he said it could KILL her. OMG my poor little dog . its so upsetting , shes been given anti biotics , painkillers and anti inflamitaries. can you believe this i was absolutely un aware that this can happen. the vet said if it shows that the seed has travelled through to the stomache she'll probably have to be referred to davies white which is a specialist vets i think. they'd have to crack her rib cage open .shocking huh everyone please be carefull of and seeds!!!!!!!!!!! sorry for such a long winded story but needed to et it off my chest and to warn how serious it can be!!!
