Holly still poorly
« on: January 14, 2008, 06:08:31 PM »
Contains poo description so don't read if you are eating! :-\

She had her scan on Friday which showed nodules on the liver.  Vet didn't think it was cancer, more likely old age but it would probably account for the high liver enzymes.  She had the liver function test and that came back ok so it most likely is the Diabetes Incipidus, so she started her drops on Friday.  We have to play about with them because Charlie told me today that too many can cause dehydration :-\  At the moment she just has one drop in one eye, twice a day.

The problem she has now is that the high fat meal (after years of Burns for sensitive tummies) gave her really bad diarrhoea.  Charlie apologised but said that because the last liver function test results were inconclusive, they had to give a lot more high fat food and it is possible they have damaged her gut.  She has been bad since Friday night so I starved her and yesterday started giving her boiled rice with scrambled egg.  Only bits of egg in it and only tiny portions.  Today at about 3 ish, she had diarrhoea again and it was just a mass of rice held together with yellow goo (sorry).  She isn't drinking because of the drops so I have been told to stop them until I get her tummy back to normal.  I am very reluctant to starve her again so I have sent OH out to get some white fish and I will try her on that without rice and until she gets her thirst back I will syringe some water into her.

She has the vets at 9pm tomorrow but the poor wee thing.  My heart breaks for her.  She cannot be comfy as she is sat shaking.  If it gets any worse I will get the vet out.  I know she needed to get the test done but the test has caused even more problems than she had :-\ :-\

oh poor little girl  :'( :'( :'(

no advice Sheryl, only huge cyber hugs to you both (you must be feeling so wretched that you can't fix her...it's NOT your fault  :-* :-* ) and loads of get well Holly thoughts speeding their way to you.

I hope the vet can stabilise her and make her comfortable and get her on the road to recovery :luv:

Jessie was really poorly when she had to have chicken and rice...so we swapped to chicken and potato then fish and potato and we ended up with white fish and pasta!

Jessie is currently eating a vetinary prescribed diet (Royal Canin Sensible SC24) which is Blue Whiting and Tapioca...this has sorted her out, she is keeping in inside her.

Jessie is also a Burns pup and when I contacted them they suggested we were overfreeding her and should reduce the qty. We haven't done this because we are a bit scared to re-introduce things that set her back.....
